Date(s) Skied: Saturday and Sunday 11/24/07 & 11/25/07
Resort or Ski Area: Stowe
Conditions: Packed powder. Really outstanding for this early in the year with a lot of skier traffic. Some scraped up stuff later in the day.
Trip Report: We had a free place to stay and a deal on lift tickets so we spent the weekend at Stowe. The only operating lift on Mansfield was the four-runner quad and only true never-ever and beginner terrain was open at Spruce. Open runs on Mansfield included Sunrise, Ridgeview, North Slope, Lord, Center Line, part of Toll Road, and I think part of Standard and perhaps Hayride. Saturday morning was bluebird, very pretty. We thought snow conditions were exceptional for this early in the year. Lift lines became pretty long by mid-morning and the available runs became pretty busy with a mix of skier abilities. We decided to call it an early day by about 12:30 and met some friends for lunch. Conditions were still pretty good when we left but you could tell skier traffic was starting to take a toll. On Sunday morning there was light snow and quite a bit of wind at the top. Snow conditions were really good and lift lines never became really annoying. We hung in for a couple of runs after lunch before starting our long drive home. Whattever crowds there were in the morning had largely disappeared. No real lift lines after lunch. We were really impressed with the snow conditions. All in all a great way to start our ski season.
