Really nice plan by Gunstock. Expanding from 4 to 6 reliable trails off the summit is going to be great. Some will miss Hot Shot as an all natural trail, but as great as it is as a narrow natural trail, it's hardly ever open as Gunstock isn't blessed with a ton of natural. So, this makes a lot of sense and adds much needed reliable variety off the top.

The expanded deck will also be well received.

Out west here:

  • Snowbird: replacing Wilbere with a fixed grip quad on a different alignment;
  • PowMow: 2 new lifts (IIRC) and replacing one with a HSQ;
  • Deer Valley: continued work on their expansion. LiftBlog is reporting a new HS6 going in somewhere.

Interesting on gunstock. Skied 20+ days there this year, lifts felt like a far more urgent need than additional snowmaking trails. Maybe they just had a bad year but the panorama was down more than any other hsdq I have encountered, tiger also down regularly with bizzare loud bangs in bottom terminal.

And snowmaking work on Ellen, right?

I don't think I've heard anything about snowmaking work at Ellen yet for this summer. They did a lot of work over there last summer. AFAIK, HG is the only thing that has been formally announced. (But usually they do their off season announcements around the end of the season).

You must have had bad luck. Skied there 20+ times this year and last. I can only recall the Panorama being down twice for a short period of time both years. No issues with any other lifts.' Im fine with their lifts.

Adding these two new snowmaking trails off the top was at the top of my list for improvements. So I'm quite happy. Number 2 would be both improved and additional bathrooms. Worst quantity / quality in the state. Never had to wait as long as I have had to there to get my young kids into stalls. Add another trailer bathroom setup outside at least.

I am amazed the amount of money New York state continues to throw at new lifts. Hudson express will be sweet but that area is hardly ever open. Maybe it will incentivise opening Little Gore more frequently. The existing lift there is a pretty new Partek iirc

A minute from the Alta exit off the I-15!
We are putting in 2 new magic carpets to replace one. Doesn't sound like anything, but the current magic carpet has been ski school only since it's inception... meaning Alta is (as far as I know) the only major ski area left in the country that does not have a magic carpet open to the public. This will further strengthen our large area of completely free beginner terrain (transfer tow, alta lodge tow, little chairlift, and now a carpet will be open to the public).

Wait, what? I had no idea. This could be key come April 23rd. Decent beginner terrain for the little ones?

Bids? No, bid as in only 1 proposal was received and it was double the planned cost IIRC.
Pretty sure the state of NH figured they could "squeeze" lift manufacturers, just like they "squeeze" Healthcare providers with low ball bids... Unlike the 10's of thousands of Healthcare providers of which some will certainly bite at the low ball numbers based on volume, the 2 ski lift manufacturers capable of this project, both laughed at the squeeze play bid vs the reality of the numerous other job contract offers they have/accept
