Resort or Ski Area: Wachusett Mountain, MA

Conditions: Packed Powder, Fast

Trip Report:

Took a short 4 hour jaunt to Wawa tonight. All of the manmade snow was excellent because of the temps (12 at base, 5 at summit) and snowmaking was in full force on 10th, Smith, and in the Vickery Bowl with a few going in other various places.

Conifer: Sugar before grooming, EXCELLENT packed powder after grooming. The conditions on the trail were almost perfect. The base is very deep and edge to edge the entire way. The upslope winds made it colder, but definitely the best trail on the mountain. 10th will open tomorrow and Smith should be open by the weekend. Polar Express was in full speed the whole night with no lines what-so-ever.

Look Mom: A lot better than last week and the conditions were as good as those on Conifer. The cover on the trail is deep, but only extends from the right side to just under the lift in some parts. Most of it is edge to edge. There is a rail set up at the bottom as well as a few natural features to get air off of. The "halfpipe" was getting some use, however it is only filled with natural snow right now.

Challenger: Great all night, even though it wasn't groomed. It was great just to open it up as no one was skiing it until after 6. The base is deep and edge to edge the entire way. Cold temps do wonders with manmade snow.

Ralph's: Kind of slow due to the natural pitch, but it is a beginner trail, so there's no need to complain. There were a few sections where the base didn't quite go edge to edge, but 95% was. It's a lot better than that strange "green snow" that covered the trail this time last year.

Overall, another great early December trip. Snowmaking is really cranking and I wouldn't be suprised to see them at 100% by Christmas and all of the major trails open this weekend. I'll be back up there Friday night.
