I was skiing there 1/11-13, and I wouldn't say it was garbage. It wasn't what I go out west to ski, but the snow was... there. We had some good runs. Skied the Empire bowl several times. My biggest gripe was that since half the mountain was closed, the trails skied crowded, even though most of lifts were running and so had minimal lift lines. And yeah, I don't go to UT to ski groomed blues. But the weather was very nice. (That's both a good and bad thing, of course.)

Back when December was at its worst, I was actually pushing my friends to move the ski days to 1/25-27. "It will be much better by then." Good God, good thing we stuck with our plan, because there's been no snow since before we got there last week, and that would make like 3 weeks without snow? And all the skiing in the meantime including MLK weekend scraping everything off? It's gonna be even worse.
Wow, Empire is open?

Hell pc has 210 out of 349 trails open....not that I would venture into a lot of it..
The more they can show open..maybe more people will show up..
And find out its groomers only..if you like your skis..and your self.

Yeah, I've set my expectations accordingly. It was a groomer weekend for me. I did ski Hoop's and Bookmark Gully at Snowbird, as well as Thor and Wren Hollow at Brighton. They were decent, but low tide. Alta and Snowbird skied better than Brighton. The latter is pretty firm and rough.

I keep waiting for Chris Tomer to report the big change coming, but nothing yet. Winter Park is sitting at 97 inches and may finally crack 100 this week. At the same time I haven’t givin up hope that February will produce. La Niña is supposed to be fading and sliding towards an El Niño next year Things can get interesting as the ENSO changes.

Mean while I have reservations for Stratton VT tjhis weekend where the windchills are forecast to be -35 to -45 below zero. Not sure how much skiing I will actually do but the hotel has a hot tub so least it won’t be a total loss.

Getting..very depressing...

One day you can brag you lived through the worst Utah ski season in the history of the ski industry.

I will never again complain about how "poor" last year's ski season was.
My first ski season living here in 2023 spoiled me as Park City had a powder day seemingly every week.

You all are giving me tahoe flashbacks. Get a mountain bike and ride until it happens. Winter will relax back east eventually and it'll flip
