As the thread title suggests, my Rossignol Soul 7s were made off with.

Frankly, I've owned them for 8.5 years and they're a 10 year old ski, so they were likely approaching the end of their usable lifespan. But Soul 7s were lightweight, snappy skis that excelled not only in trees, but in moguls, and had decent float (106), and that trifecta of trees/moguls/float is rare. They were somewhat revolutionary in their day.

So does anyone have any recommendation for something with some float that's decent in trees & moguls for a more modern replacement?

I have no idea how good AI would be for this, but as a science experiment I put the question into Grok, Gemini, and ChatGPT asking for skis similar in nature/performance to the Soul 7.

I ski the RipStick 96 and I love it. Light weight not necessarily sure I'd call them "snappy". It is a true one ski quiver. I have not skied the 106 but I may it anyways becasue my buddy loves his. unfortunately I'm a short so his are too long.

I skied the QST 98 and loved that too.

I have a pair of Elan Ripsticks too and love them. The Black edition is a little firmer and skis better at higher speeds then the regular Ripstick which I've owned too. The Ripsticks are great in moguls and trees.

I just bought the qst's in 112 but shorter than usual at 178...
Awesome!

I've heard those are awesome skis, I was looking at the 118s as my top-choice for powder ski before the Bacon 122s fell in my lap on clearance.

As these are daily driver's I'll add these to the possibility list in the QST 100s or maybe 106s, and something like 178 is perfect for me as I'm only 5'11". How do you think the QSTs handle bumps / tree bumps?

I agree about the "regular" Ripsticks in moguls and trees. something I failed to mention in my original post. I have a buddy who has the blacks and he loves them. We talk all the time about swapping them, but haven't done so yet.

I am 5'7 and ski the 174. Honestly would purchase this same ski again. I've actually thought about buy the 88 and 106 and just being a straight up Ripstick Quiver

I use them if any snow falls. They handle anything..very light..can throw them around..and with a 15m radius..trees are no problem ad well as moguls.
My other ones are j skis in 99 by 186...they handle everything but deep snow as they are heavy..but bomb proof..build very well.
Between those 2 I now have a whole wall of skis I don't use anymore!

Your Soul 7 daily driver is my powder ski, and mine are certainly showing their age so I'm looking to replace them but not urgently.

As far as your DD, I'll make the outlier suggestion: Stockli Stormrider 96 or 102. I use the 96 for everything but stupid hardpack and rare deep dumps, but they ski a foot of pow decently, good in trees and bumps. Yes, the price is too high, but few skis feel this premium. Here's a link to the 102s: https://www.stoeckli.ch/usen/ski/ski/allmountain/stormrider-102

But man, the Soul 7s are fun in the trees

How do the Ripsticks and QSTs ski switch? Neither are twintips, but some directional skis ski backwards just fine, while others kind of suck at it.

It's a minor concern, but just curious.

Whoa. That sucks. I would demo the Elan Ripsticks or the Head Kore. Especially if you like lightweight and snappy skis. The Atomic Bent is more for soft snow and deeper days. I would not want it for all-around. That said, the Atomic Maverick 105cti may be worth a try. I have been impressed by them for all conditions, including firm groomers.

Yeah, the Atomic Mavericks and Elan Ripsticks are indeed directional skis. I would not ride them switch. Could they? I suppose. But they are more of a point 'em down the fall line and ski.

Old or not thats a bummer, stolen skis

If it happened in April it wouldn't be quite as bad, but now I just have groomer death cookie busting rock skis that weigh 1000 pounds and powder skis with no powder. So I'm having to do lots of research, which is annoying and will need to pull the trigger on something quickly.

Will probably go down to the Front to all those ski shops outside the canyons soon and see what they have in one or two years old. Evo in SLC is good too. First I'll go to a shop in PC where the guy knows us as frequent fliers and gives us really good deals to see if they have something. I'm honestly more annoyed that my Leki carbon poles were stolen at the same time as those suckers cost $170, and even though they were about 15 years old, it doesnt matter as poles last forever.
