Good questions, Smelly and urungus. But you aren’t going to like my answers!

Yes, I mostly xc skis the last few years, but not exclusively. I still ski downhill. No, I didn’t ski out west for several years now.

Instead, I’ve been skiing in Japan. So, if you‘d bother to look, you would have found it easily, on the first page of the trip report sections, despite it’s from last January, due to pathetical few number of trip reports from others.

Further, I started another one on my flight back from Japan last week. But, seeing few even bother to read it from last 2 years, I abandoned it.

Actually I do like your answer. Great trip report from Japan.

Sorry I missed it but I have to confess that I rarely look at the non-northeast trip report forum, which I guess is your complaint. But like you said, it is a northeast ski forum. Number of northeast trip reports is tapering off too though.

For more engagement, you could post a few photos in the main forum and/or an announcement that you’ve posted a trip report
Speaking of which, everybody check this out :)

Go to TGR, it’s all about Skiing. This forum has and will be always about bitching.
I only read it for laughable entertainment.
And Yes, I’m hated here, and I love it, cause I’m not full of shit.

Put your writing skills in your back pocket….listen and learn !
If you want real skiers and riders info try to listen a little bit about a real hard core crew at TGR. Put a thick skin on and shut the fuck up and learn from some real people & Pros.
I got 60 years under my belt and I just read read & read and learn more.
Ps. When I’m on the “crapper” I’ll read this forum just to hear about who’s 4” pipe should be replaced by a 6”er and what stairs should be…
lol !!!
Vail sucks ? Thread, really. I think we get it !
Again, just read…dont bitch, just read

No need to feel/say sorry. There’re so few trip reports it’s indeed not really too much motivation to check it much at all. Nor am I complaining no one reads MY trip report. But I’m indeed disappointed about the lack of trip reports in general.

Let’s be realistic, many times people come to the board for a bit of information and a lot of entertainment. Trip report, whether it’s written up as such, or as others puts it, in the general section as part of the discussion, makes up a good part of the entertainment. After we gone out skiing, or when we’re stuck in the office wishing we were out skiing, we browse ski forums to read about others ripping it and having tons of fun! That’s what many of us come despite having nothing really earth shattering to say.

I lost the motivation to write up my trip to Japan because I wasn’t getting my share of the fix from reading reports from others! I wonder if the lack of trip reports stems from the same lack of motivation by others? When you combine that with a near silence about the incoming storm that looks like it’ll blanket much of the northeast, one does wonder “why bother? Nobody cares”.

Sure, I could go to TGR and read about people dropping cliffs in JH. But that’s a different story than someone tripping over tree roots in MRG! The latter might not be epic. But it feels a lot more familiar and probably hilarious when I think “hey, I did that 2 weeks ago”.

And in that same report, I can also tell I probably shouldn’t bring my 100+mm plank to MRG just yet, no matter what they report as the base depth. At least not till the next storm!

So, no trip reports? No sharing of skiing stories? No entertainment!

Anyway, I’ll stop. I realized I’ve added some more of the negative vibe by complaining about the negative vibe. Sorry about that.

I’m still trying to figure out what is meant by a southern storm. I’m in Southern Vermont and they are expecting 18 - 24. Part of the problem has been the unrelenting cold. We bagged yesterday because at 65 I refuse to punish my wife or myself for a couple of hours of skiing. We are going to give it a go today

Don’t blame you. We’re at BW for the next three days but I don’t plan on hitting the slopes until after 11 or so each day, even though it’ll only be marginally warmer. I’ll take all the warmth I can get.

I've seen plenty of posts about actual skiing...not sure what forum you are reading. Just because there may not be tons of official trip reports doesn't mean there aren't posts about actual skiing.

I'm reminded of this nugget:

4+ years,
163 pages,
3254 posts (99% positive) and
495,000 views later... taint no one posting about skiing?!?

A storm is coming to the northeast in 24 hours. But no one seems to care?

OK, it’s a southerly storm. But while New Jersey is well south of New England, is still part of the northeast.

Over in the trip report section, there’re only 3 trip reports! And we’re in late January, technically mid-season. I’m left wondering is anyone skiing? Or plan to ski at all?

Most of the latest postings were under individual mountain threads. I thought maybe some discussions were hiding in these? But when I open a few of them, there were just a whole lot of bitching and moaning about mountain managements!

A couple summers ago, I declared I was going to stay away till winter, as I didn’t see much interesting discussions going on. A few took it to mean I was leaving the board for good. But now that winter is here and I’m back to check on the board, it doesn’t appear there’s that much more discussion about skiing either! I wonder if I’m just as well stay away for good?

P.S.

Not seeing much going on here, I went ahead and signed up on a couple of the mountain’s facebook group. Not surprisingly, there’re also a lot of gossiping mixed in with actual skiing talks. But at least they’re not all bitching and negative vibe.
I think these sites are just losing viewers in general. I used to follow KZone when I had a home there and it was very active. Lately it doesn't seem to have nearly the same level of participation that it once did. Where did everyone go? My wife goes to the Killington Locals FB page a lot for info as do her friends who ski there frequently. If I had to guess, social media is where its at now. I'm sure the Admins here know the traffic levels and I wouldn't be surprised if there has been a steady decline. Wasn't AZ for sale recently?
