Less than 24 hours until the competition officially gets underway with preliminary round curling Wednesday at 1:05pm Eastern time, two days before the opening ceremonies. Looking forward to seeing Mikaela Shiffrin putting Beijing behind her, Lindsey Vonn (hopefully), Mikael Kingsbury, ski jumping, aerials, snowboard cross, hockey, short track speed skating, biathalon, and new sport ski mountaineering !!

im stoked the olympics will be on tv for much of my upcoming canada ski trip. i really enjoy when the winter games overlap with my february trip. its especially nice because my streaming services and stuff don't work in canada so im largely limited to hotel cable. if i recall correctly, last time i was there netflix, hulu, and hbo were all not allowed outside of region. amazon and apple were ok. i just downloaded most of the oscar nomination movies, really just to work off a list of content to hoard on a hard drive.

edit - nice. mens hockey medal games are right in the middle of my trip. go canada. for the sake of a really fun time at a bar.

On Saturday, Vonn completed her second training run in two days on the Olympic course to re-familiarize herself with a place she already knows by heart. Back in Cortina, where she has won a record 12 World Cup races, Vonn was out to make an emphatic point. Healthy knee or not, she was ready to mix it up with the best skiers in the world. In her first trip down the mountain, on Friday, she finished 11th out of 43. And on Saturday, Her second training run she sat third out of 21 before training was canceled due to poor weather.

Drones have really added to the coverage. Love the drone following the sledders (luge). Looking forward to drone’s eye view of the downhill.

The thing the drones have done for downhill is give the viewer more of an appreciation of the insane speeds. When you watch skiing on TV, somehow it "flattens" your view, and the camera distance loses something. I'm amazed how the drone really gives a much more realistic impression of not just the speed, but also the pitch.

You could see them released at the start but it almost seemed the drone couldn’t keep up with sled as they didn’t show that camera angle again on any runs. Maybe it just couldn’t be maneuvered further down

Lindsey had another brutal crash 4 gates into the women’s downhill. Had to be airlifted
However, a new star is born: Breezy Johnson - first US medalist Didn't know anything about her but apparently, she has been on a tear this season while Lindsey and Mikala got the headlines. Interesting background, from Idaho, grew up skiing Jackson Hole.

The US Women have a ton of talent, in both the speed and tech events... And frankly for many of them, you can credit both Lindsey and even Mikeala, and their dominance over the last 10-20yrs as inspiration for tons of young women ski racers in the US, many of whom now have been at it long enough, to make it onto the World stage! 🇺🇸🇺🇸
