shops that mount freerides

Got some freeride +'s to be mounted. c0il mentioned Sport Thoma in N. Lincoln, wondering if anyone has any info on any other shops that'll mount them for me. Figure I'll have to trek regardless, I don't think there's anything within an hour of Keene. Any thoughts, good or bad? Quick turnaround (but quality mount) to be combined with a day trip is a big plus.

Did not know you were located in Keene. Clearwater Sports in Waitsfield, VT does AT. I am sure there is a shop or two in Killington that does AT as well.

Seriously, of the three bindings I've mounted, my Freerides were by far the easiest. It comes with a template... trust me, if I can do it, a monkey with severe brain damage could do it. As a matter of fact, a monkey with severe brain damage did do it.

I've read dawson's site and downloaded the template, maybe I'll try it on some 2x4's first.

Really, it's handy to have access to a drill press like I did to mount my alpine binders, but I got my freerides on with battery hand drill. I marked the depth before hand, and put tape on the bit at the line where I wanted to stop. I got good, consistent results and probably spent all of an hour, maybe before they were on. Just put some wood glue in the holes before you screw the bindings down and voila!

You can use epoxy to fill the holes too, just don't use epoxy on foam core skis. Some of the closed cell foams can degrade by contact with epoxy. Polyester resin is always safe though, from what I understand. But so is wood glue, and it's easier and cheaper.

You could also check http://www.bdel.com/wtb.php for BD dealers and call the ones that sound like they'd have a repair shop as well as a retail operation.

There is also a thread somewhere in the TGR gear swap where someone is making plastic jigs for like 15 bucks or so. All you have to do is clamp it to the ski and drill.

Fore/Aft!!!

Take your time in focusing on the fore/aft setting...function is key with AT bindings so often times the fore/aft setting is a rather too "fluid"....
