I personally believe that if you grew up skiing the east coast (ICE Coast) you can SKI ANYWHERE..

What Sledge posted it true to the tee.....now where do I pick up my 120mm underfoots?

I hope to NEVER tune a ski again....

I can't choose between the two....two completely different experiences, both great.

EC skier: Thinks the trees aren't tight enough if you only got a few twigs stuck to ya.
WC skier: Can see the summit from anywhere in the woods and doesn't know the meaning of undergrowth.

Now in the west's defense..

EC skier: Hucks a 15' er after much contemplation.
WC skier: Hucks a 15' er to get to a 30' er.

Hmm... I skied last October and I believe others here skied then also... and October of '05...
...but let's just not speak of what happened in the following months

I guess Vermont is close enough to be considered east coast but Wyoming, Utah, Montana and that other state, starts with a C I think are definately not West Coast.

If you proclaimed to a JH local, for example. "I love JH, I love west coast skiing" he would problably stuff you in some car heading to CA or maybe Tahoe..

So..when comparing west coast skiers think CA, OR, Wash, Nevada and maybe that state with all the potatoes. Wyoming, Utah, Montana and Colorado, those are in the Rockies. :wink:

West Cpast skiet..there was ice in some of the troughs..

East coast skiers rule handa down...When I lived in Montucky I mostly skied with east coast skiers and riders beause they were enthusiastic about skiing/riding..not all jaded..I had some sweet days at Jackson Hole last season and the locals didn't even bother..due to only 60 inches of base.

Too true! Skiing Vermont I used to tune about every 3 days. My first season here I never tuned.

Yup, with any luck despite temps around 80 yesterday and today, Skidog and I will be making turns on Saturday. But...

In reality, though, to cop a local phrase: "It's all good." Stick me on top of a frozen hill with a 2x4 strapped to each foot and I'm happy, I don't care much where it is.

Yeah, but it's kinda like the Boston/metro area to the rest of Massachusetts. To an East Coaster, anything west of the Miss is West Coast, just like anything outside of 495, to a Bostonian, is "western Mass."

How about Western skier?
As was said before, the biggest difference I have observed between us...and them is the conditions we will ski in. When I got to Jackson last season I met so many people who hadn't skied in weeks due to the low snow pack. Conditions that we would have taken in a heartbeat. Thankfully it snowed everyday we where there and the locals all started coming out.
so.......East coast skier will ski in anything, wearing a garbage bag if needed.

We've discussed this at length over at FTO's forums. It's all about proximity. Jackson locals are like Utah locals - it's so close, why would you bother when things suck? I managed to rack up 75 days last year and even in a "low snow year" of just over 400 inches never bothered on a truly crappy day. Unlike folks who fly out here we're only 20 minutes away, so you find other things to do when weather and/or conditions are sub-par because there's always tomorrow. There's no need to suffer when it's so close. I've been known here to go home after two runs when things are unexpectedly lousy, but I never would have done that back East when I had to drive anywhere from 90 minutes to 4 hours to reach the slopes.

It doesn't take long living here to start getting spoiled and turn into a powder princess.
