Looking for some input on "Ski Lamps"........My Father is retired and has started making these. They are antique hickory skis with a cherry base. Wondering 2 things, 1 being do you feel there is a market for such an item, and 2 what do you feel such an item would be worth.

Looking to test the waters before launching on ebay etc.......thanks

Unless the skis are junk, I hate to see them (or any other antique) drilled or cut. Others may feel the same way.
Agreed.

That said, Brian's uncle is apparently making the same from his home in the Adirondacks. We were supposed to get a lamp made from skis this year for Christmas... haven't seen it appear yet. Not sure if it ever will. :-?

Other than ski condos/affluent areas, I can't see much of a market for it. I did once see a bench made from old skis, though, and I've been collecting skis from the garbage for my own someday. ;)

Now benches and chairs from skis are pretty cool and they're would probably be a bit more of a market for them. I've seen someone make one in a couple of hours, out of old skis ofcourse.

Have 1 chair and 1 bench on my deck----they're cool!!!! My friends always joke that I have the only 5000.00 dollar bench in town:)

I hadn't either, and think that's what we're hoping for.

Put it on eBay you never know. We're not the average skiing public. It may be just the thing someone was looking for, for their Aspen ski condo.

Where do you find all the old skis? I'd think they'd be kinda tough to come by these days.

I don't mean to sound harsh, but to me it is kitsch.

That's the attraction, I'd say.
I can see it being popular in ski condos, but it's not a huge market. I'd list it at $150 or so, see if anyone bites. If not, list at $250 before coming down in price.

Assuming, of course, that $150 still provides a profit you can deal with.

Yup, that's the plan. Through one on there and see what happens.

My family has a long ski history if you will so most of them have been in barns, garages etc. for years. With 4 ski areas within 30 miles of where I live these skis seem to be plentifull (for now) around here.

We're gonna list at 249 and see what happens---again, not a "real" source of income here, just a hobby

All the chairs and benches I see made out of skis all use 80's and 90's skis and although kinda cool, most are pretty ugly. Now a chair made out of nice wooden skis all stained the same color and soundly constructed would be really nice. Something that would look really nice in a study next to a big brown leather chair. I bet you could fetch $1,000 + for something like that.
