Is anyone else having any problems with UPS lately or are they just picking on me?

I ordered my camera from B&H photo and selected three day UPS shipping. It took one week. I was told that it was because they took NY Eve off.... Seems odd considering that whenever anything I have ordered before has moved along pretty quickly...and has at least been moved during the weekends.

The very next day (Friday Dec. 28th) I ordered something from Patagonia...and it is scheduled to get here this coming Friday...that's two WHOLE weeks. I selected the same standard UPS shipping.

Are the workers on strike or has the service really gotten this terrible???

No issues here with them. USP, USPS, FedEx... any one of those is bound to hiccup sometimes... which is a real bummere when you're selling things to others (like on Ebay) and they expect something to be there pronto and it's a little bit delayed... they never blame the carrier and just can't understand that sometimes things take a little longer to get there.

Nowadays I just get upset if something is time sensitive and will cost me money or time in the process - but that's pretty rare, so I usually just chill out and wait for it to get here.

Don't forget that there can be time, sometimes even several days, between placing the order and the vendor giving it to UPS. What's the tracking info show?

UPS was not running for two days last week. 12/31 and 1/1. I don't think they've ever been down 2-days for New Years in the past. These two days didn't count so if you shipped something Friday 12/28 via overnight delivery it wasn't delivered until Wednsday 1/2! Our Fed-Ex delivery person said they were very busy 12/31 because UPS wasn't shipping.

UPS is the best. My company just switched from UPS to Fedex (likely to cut costs but you get what you pay for....) and it has been a nightmare. I miss UPS.

Screw UPS..they're the worse..I'm all about paying the extra money for Fedex or using the US postal service..as long as Newman from Seinfeld doesn't handle your mail..

POTD!!!!

Well, I figured maybe it was because I ordered at the wrong time of the year and that UPS just laid off their temporary help that was needed for the holidays. In the past, UPS has been awesome.

USPS, on the other hand, always does a good job. I can track things and see how they move...even on weekends and holidays.

And someone asked about tracking. I've been doing that. My BH Camera shipped on Thursday, Dec. 27th in the afternoon. I was stoked because the next day it was in MA. Then it just sat there...on Monday, that info was gone and now my camera was sitting in CT  and it sat there for three days...it came on Thursday afternoon.

My Patagonia item was last seen in NV last Wednesday. Today it appeared in Illinois  Wow....

I ordered some things from Steep and Cheap on 12/22 and 12/23, usually get them within about a week. This time I got them this past Friday 1/4. I just attributed it to the holidays and didn't even give it a second thought. Patience my boy, patience.

The last thing I got from SAC was ordered on the 24th of December and I got it on the 3rd of January, one day earlier than projected... :) The item before that was ordered on the 17th and arrived on the 24th...

Ok, I ordered from from Steep and Cheap on 12/22 and 12/23 and Walmart on 12/28. The three packages all came at the same time on 1/4. I attribute it to the Holidays. As I was tracking, in each case, it was awhile before the package even got picked up.

I ordered from altrec on 12/23 and have not received my items. They shipped right away. Also a resort that I know of ran out of wickets because of a delay of UPS.

Delays happen. I think any one in an industry/business that relies on transportation for their livelihood, especially time sensitive product, will more than likely agree UPS is the best out there. Even the best are not immune to delays, more often than not caused by weather. If you need something immediately, you should be selecting Air delivery. Ground is not guaranteed by a certain day by usually arrives within five business days in the continental US.

I have worked at numerous locations and it is the same everywhere, UPS drivers are reliable and professional and UPS is almost always on time. Fedex, not so professional and less timely. We have had locations in our company not receive Fedex deliveries for four business days in a row and then get over a hundred cartons dumped on them on the same day. I personally witnessed this yesterday in my travels.

Fedex has one thing going for them, they are better than DHL which is the ultimate nightmare company for damaged packages and not on time deliveries by suspect characters.

USPS is always a solid bet, IMO, especially since they deliver and move packages on Saturdays. Though shipping stuff out is cheaper, it is also a major PITA. And for folks with PO boxes, I would rather have a carrier like UPS deliver.

A resort ran out of wickets not because of a delay in UPS but rather because they did not order wickets in a timely fashion. That statement coming from someone that works in a business that right product right time is absolutely crucial. You need something by a certain date, then order Air or order sooner. And don't order during the holiday rush, all the major carriers are going to have delays and problem packages during that busy time of year.

I agree with you to a point, Riv. But when a consumer pays for a service and is told that the goods will be delivered by a certain date, and it comes two days late with no warning, or in the case of my other order two weeks later, that is unacceptable. People aren't shipping things by the pony express anymore.
