Does Wachusett leave enough alone?

I can't wait until the weekend, so I'm thinking of calling in sick tomorrow and doing a day trip to Wachusett with wife tomorrow. (Can't go farther, because we have to pick up our sun by 4 pm.)

My only question is, does Wachusett leave enough alone without grooming after a snowstorm?
Unless the lack of pitch is compensated for by nice powder bumps, I doubt it will be worth the trip to Wachusett.

i'm closely watching their snow report, and so far they are claiming 15" of new snow.
that can turn into rain by tomorrow, of course, in which case, I'll just go to work.

Even if it stayed rain free, 15" of cement is not exactly a powder day. Is Berkshire East an option?

They did get 15" last night, been raining since about 10 or 11.

No. I live in the metro Boston area, so BEast is actually farther than So NH.

Dang.. they should have updated their snow report. Not mentioning the more recent rain is very misleading.

Atleast they did mention the "R" word in the forcast for today - gotta give Team Crowley and the Wawa staff credit

How about Loon? I'm not sure if you're south of Boston, but if you're north, you could drop off your son between 6 and 7; ski until 2 and pick him up at 4. They're getting snow.

Gunstock is getting rain.

To answer the OP's original question, I think they're pretty quick at grooming even when it's dumping. I think they groom at night and at 4pm. I was there once on what would have been a powder day and the snowcats were out in force at 4 pm to mow down all that fresh new snow.

I've had the opposite experience on powder nights... I've skied there a few times during storms and the cats have stayed in the garage.

They usually groom everything at the end of the night, but once in a while if they don't have race training scheduled for upper smith, they'll leave that ungroomed for a day or two.

BOOOOOOOOO on R up at Gunstock.

I'm sorry. I just thought that Gunstock would be another option as a doable day trip from the OP's location; but probably also another location that's not worth burning a sick day.

I am only boooing the R, not the suggestion, because we are headed back up tomorrow night. Gstock is a great option for a quick day trip if North of Boston.
