don't you work w/ financial people. maybe get your peeps to buy the joint and put you in charge (i'll run mtn opps).

yeah i don't get it either. to bring business into the area, you invite a band whose followers are associated with drug use, then set up a police state and bust them all after killing a perfectly good event that didn't need a name rock act to attract peeps by installing the following rules:

On-Snow Venue
Please leave coolers, alcohol, BBQ’s, chairs and tents in your vehicle as they will not be permitted into the event. We ask that you leave the following at home: couches, picnic tables, kegs and animals.

you can't make this up ......

Isn't it illegal to just stop and search cars without probable cause?

Yes, but tell the Vermont state policeman that when you're pulled over for nothing on the Access Road. I'm sure he'll be very impressed if you don't hand him your license and registration.

This is a lot of noise over nothing. There was more tie-dye and hemp clothing at Bear this year than for the usual band they book for the event. There might have been slightly more pot smoked than usual. It was a pretty mellow crowd. Not much different from Sunshine Daydream. Other than the stupidity of holding a mogul contest on ice bumps in March, I have no issue with what Killington did this year. The band was good. I got to ride the lift at 4:45pm to get back to main mountain. There was an awful lot of alcohol up on the snow and nobody got hassled. I hope they come to their senses and allow BBQs up on the snow next year. There was plenty of space farther up on the hill for it and since it's leased state forest land, Killington really can't stop someone from having a picnic on state land unless it is interfering with the principal use of the land.

I still can't believe how many state police were in town. It's like they had a convention or somethin'.

if everyone enjoyed it, fine. nonetheless if they hadn't killed the old party scene they wouldn't have had to hire a "name" touring act that brought all that police presence. it wasn't broke. prior to powdr they didn't need a "name" band. the fact that it was the bmmc was enough. if concert promotion is the direction they want to go with this event and everyone's happy so be it. but yeah end of march is 2 weeks early.

Maybe they had buds entered in the bear mountain mogul challenge and wanted to cheer them on.

I doubt Moe. cost more than the has-been bands they've booked in the past. I'd venture that you could stop 1000 people in the street of a major city and not find anybody who has heard of them.

I'd certainly rather hear Moe. than the Smithereens. ...though the "POWDR Sucks!" on the PA system to kick off the Smithereens show to a booze-free and very lightly attended BMMC was a classic.

April. Bring back the on-snow BBQs. All is well.

I'd be interested to know what they charged as it was a no ticket show yes??

moe. typically comes very close to selling out the Orpheum in Boston at $30 a ticket. That's about 60K+ in revenue per show. They draw around ten thousand people to their music festival they host each summer as well. While not a 'name band' to Joe Public, they do have a fairly large following.

For a 'free' show on a day they're already getting paid anyways, I bet they charged Killington 10K minimum.

FWIW moe played several times and venues during the weekend, not just at Bear. They were the third act at the ice arena in Rutland Sat night (and may have played Fri too), heard there were maybe 2000 people in there and it was hot as hell. Then Moe was playing a brunch or something somewhere on Sunday. Killington was just one piece of the weekend music festival.

It's also very good exposure for Moe. The demographic at BMMC is quite different from their usual audience. The deck at Bear was packed. I would think Killington easily covered their costs on the event between the extra day ticket sales and alcohol sales. The whole point of promotional events is to get people to come back and spend more money. I think it was successful.
