A friend of mine is looking to buy his first ski boots. Who would you recommend in NYC or Westchester?

NOT Surefoot. While they have always been nice and helpful, they have not been able to make my boot such that it doesn't hurt on a continued basis, despite many many trips into various of their shops (Sugarbush x10, New York x 6, Park City MR, Deer Valley x 2, Breckenridge, Copper)

take a trip north, get fitted and ski on it that afternoon and next day if possible, that way if any adjustments need to be made they can do it right there...we got fitted by Hal at northern ski works at killington

I've heard that Pedigree in White Plains is supposed to be fairly good. At least as of a couple of years ago the guy that fit my last pair of boots at the Starting Gate in Bondville worked there. I saw him wghen I was renting my kids gear for the season. Not sure if he is still there though.

Absolutely try Surefoot. I have them and they have been fnatastic. I will never ski with another boot agian. The improved performance has been remarkable. Absolutely no movement in the boot. I can wear them all day without significant discomfort.

Having just purchased some new ones recently, if you've got a car, you might want to try Heino's Ski & Cycle in Pequannock, NJ. Amazingly good bootfitter IMO. Call for an appointment though, otherwise you'll be waiting a longggg time because he fits a ton of racing kids/adults this time of year.

Reasonable prices.
