Just so you know, they don't open Jackson Gore til mid December. It's on forest service land, and they have to wait for the bears to bed down for the winter. Seriously. But if we're lucky, maybe the Solitude area will be open.

I'd love if they re-opened. They're only about 20 minutes from me, and it's been so sad to drive or bike by there and see it all closed up. It'd be great to have another mountain to play on.

I'm planning a trip to Burke and I've never been there when the glades were open. I hear they are now. Can anyone tell me how coverage is? And can anyone give me some recommendations or insight? Which ones shouldn't I miss? Which ones aren't too tight? Thanks!

I was there today, too, and yes, there was a TON of snow, but BMac is right -- it was very heavy and got tracked out rather quickly. Thought you all might enjoy some pix:

6 to 8 inches at Okemo today. Horribly windy at the top, but once you got out of the wind, some terrific skiing. Especially since it was pretty empty.

Calm down there, fella. , I just thought people might be interested in hearing a story about the Vermont ski industry. That's all. Didn't mean to start a whole thing about NPR or VPR or anything. Sheesh.

There was an interesting program today about the state of the Vermont ski industry on Vermont Public Radio's Vermont Edition. They spoke with the president of the Vermont Ski Association and officials from Mad River Glen and Mount Snow. You can listen to it online if you go here.

The leaves in south central VT are finally at their peak. Over the last day or so, it's like someone flicked a switch. if you want to see them, better get out here -- fast!

Glad you made it out of there, Bill. I can't think of any way you could have done it better. Can anyone comment on what you're supposed to do in this sort of situation?
