Crack snowmaking crew.

Always enjoy the hate directed to NYS/ORDA ski areas. Especially funny coming from someone living in Utah.

They've also focused a lot on really upgrading their snowmaking system the past several years. Those improvements are really paying off...

1) What you call "hate", I call easily verified and proven, historical financial reality. It's not emo for me, just factual truths. Belleayre is dependent upon financial handouts (aka money from New York State residents paychecks being "given" to it) for its survival.

2) Not really understanding the "Utah" bit related to this, as none of the ski areas here are government controlled.

I dunno why you chose to take shots at me, it's not like I said anything pretty much everyone here doesn't already know. You genuinely think Bell would invest the snowmaking resources it has into opening mid-November if they were financially accountable to turning a PROFIT for their survival?!?!?! REALLY?!?!?!

They have shiny new toys and know how to use them. Living upstate I'm glad some of my tax dollars go to something I enjoy.

The LCC gondola will be built with taxpayer money but will only stop at two private ski areas. And Utah winter sports benefitted greatly from billions in public money for the 2002 Winter Olympics, with more to come in 2034. A shiny new road to Snowbasin being one example from 2002.

Have you ever lived and paid taxes in NY? I'm guessing no. Every paycheck I've ever collected has had NYS taxes taken.

So your sympathy and outrage for poor NYS taxpayers who are having their tax dollars stolen with no future return to pay for ski area upgrades falls flat here. Out of all the things that NYS wastes my tax money on, skiing is the only thing I enjoy paying for. Frankly, it's the only thing my NYS tax money pays for that I agree with. So I'm taking shots at you for speaking erroneously for me. I just want to ski and the financial details you obsess over just don't matter. And I think many skiers from NYS who ski the ORDA ski areas probably feel similarly. I'm glad for mid-November turns close to home.

As for the Utah thing, I would think you are dreaming of deep snow and plenty of it. Why you even care about anything skiing related in NY utterly baffles me.

You've entirely missed the point.

There is no similarity in a state using some money to build something for a once-in-lifetime (or twice in this case) occurrence to aid multiple resorts (plural) versus literally being owned, run, staffed, paid, budgeted (term used very loosely in this case) and operated via every facet, every day, every month, every year, every expenditure. I dont see how you can possibly compare that to politicians grubbing cash to "build roads" and transit etc... for the Olympics. I think that is exceptionally obvious.

Secondly (unrelated really), there's a very good chance that that LCC gondy will never be built. If the ROI can be shown to be positive, it should though. That's a big part of the debate.

Lack of cold and snow in New England and now might get a nice glazing Monday night into Tuesday. Lovely
But some solid snowmaking windows incoming. Next week will be some good early season laps

Stratton made snow to the base as well last night. Just a short shift due to temps. Not making Wednesday opening. Interesting when they will open. Friday certainly possible especially if a moderate+ snow, but they need cold to make snow and that is limited until Thursday night when it locks in for a decent (if not extended) run.

Lets hope Euro right and GFS wrong.......
Yup, and if Euro verifies, lets hope the track doesn't wander any further North than current right now. We are in St. Albans Thursday and the models I have seen off the Euro put NCP in the valley there. If there is that much warmth up North down low, we can't afford even a 20 mile wobble North.
