If we don’t get 2 65 to 70 degree days in a row black could maybe make may 3rd. If we do, not a chance with that southern exposure. It’s been a cold dreary spring in the MWV, so nothing against black. But I would rather have some warm sun before May.

My goggle tan game this year is pathetic due to this dreary weather of the last month or so. Plenty of days on the hill, just way more where I needed my "Ski-gee" goggle wiper than sunscreen unfortunately.... :(

CANNOT have nice things these days.

What a shame, 39 years old ! I was at Black on Friday, by the late afternoon that section of trail was bumped up pretty good.

just goes to show you things can go bad pretty quickly, he was a local and expert skier.

very sad for his family !

Wow that is awful news!! Wonder if just a freak accident or alcohol involved?

Shame about that fatality at Black NH. Sounded like a real good guy and a fantastic skier. I chuckled over the anecdote about him doing a big huck/trick off Lover's Leap at Vail. Lover's Leap features a big cornice at the top and is in the Blue Sky Basin section of the resort. There is a big boulder field at the base that is not obvious in the photo below. Not a place where you want to ski out of control. Here's photo of it I took several years ago:

I remember him from the Attitash race team way back when. Very sad.

We will be there as well. Can’t pass up that deal and what I’m sure will be a great time on and off the skis!

I'm planning to go Saturday as well, sounds like a great time. Maybe on to Sugarbush for Sunday as well, free lifts there this weekend. I wonder how crowds and parking will be?

Coverage looks pretty good from their FB post today:

Dear Black Mountain Family,

We are going to make it.

A season of heroic efforts by the entire team has given us skiing in May on Black Mountain. We blew up every boundary with making snow and grooming to get the hill connected, top to bottom. It is a remarkable image, made possible by this little mountain’s commitment to be the very best that it can be.

We're going to celebrate our 90th birthday and the last day of the ski season with $9 lift tickets for all ages and throw the biggest party this place has ever seen. The summit double lift will spin from 10am to 7:30pm, and we are going to charge all day with non-stop events across the mountain. The weather forecast is now showing that we are going to sneak through any rain.

We are kicking it off with a full breakfast buffet and champagne mimosas 9am to 11am. The base lodge champagne bar & grill on the back deck will be open. The Main lodge will run $1 wings and $2 slices from open to a late close. The Alpine Cabin will be serving up fondue and champagne all day. The cabin will be pumping with the first DJ set from 1-4, accompanied by our favorite saxophone player. At 4, I am going to step in and DJ/MC our all-ages Jump Jam right in front of the Alpine cabin, where we will be awarding 5 Indy passes to those who go big and show some disruptive style. The first 1000 people who make it up to the Alpine Cabin get complimentary Black Mountain 90th Birthday merchandise.

The live music will be non-stop all day. Candie Tremblay gets us started from 9:30 AM to noon, followed by Jonathan Sarty on the back deck from 12–3 PM. Finn Van Rossum keeps the momentum going in the base lodge from 3–6 PM. Then at 6 PM, the seven-piece Better Angels Band will light up the main stage on the snow at the base and play hard until 10 PM; only being interrupted by a massive fireworks display at dusk that is going to shake this place.

The skiing will be great, the parties rowdy, and the vibe all time. For 90 years, Black Mountain has been a gathering place for people who value the sport and culture of skiing. On Saturday, we will celebrate this historic place and everything that it stands for.

The little mountain that could, did.

Thanks for being here.
