Snow picked up and wind died down as the day went on today. Hit polar bear, grizzly, tamack and franks.. all in really good shape. Wind blown on snowbowl side so some boilerplate but still great for this date.

Unfortunately I don't think this is the Black Bear issue. This just happened this week while they were doing Grizzly and Tamarack.

Hope they get it sorted out soon. Meanwhile, the groomers are staying away from the sunbowl for tomorrow.

12/12 3:30: Afternoon Folks! We have a stellar weekend ahead, so who’s ready to rumble! For your Saturday, you’ll be taking turns on 77 open trails spanning across 461 skiable acres. Of which, 52 trails will receive fresh stripes overnight. Alongside, 11 lifts will be spinning with no anticipated delays. Join us Saturday for the In A Pickle Rails jam happening on the bottom of Suntanner and the first day of Demo and Dine. Additionally, the Sunbowl will open tomorrow, December 13, for lift, lodge, and parking access! Sunrise Express will be open for the season, weather permitting. PLEASE NOTE: Sunbowl’s terrain is for expert skiers and riders only to start, with natural snow coverage, ungroomed conditions and unmarked hazards. All beginner skiers and Riders should stick to the main face of the mountain. Along with that, snowmaking is set to resume within the next 24 hours, with the goal to open Black Bear as soon as possible from the top, Big Ben, tubing, and other Sunbowl trails. Let’s Weekend!

Saturday was great. I was in Lot 1 at 8:00 AM sharp. Booted up and in line before they were loading the Gondola. ROTD? Early on Liftline under the Snow Bowl chair, esp far left up top. Standard top to bottom was fun. Did that 3-4 times. Upper and lower Slalom Glade fantastic, cutup and soft bumps. West Pilot, Dancing Bear, Cabin Fever all open but def could use more snow. A whole lotta brush, logs, and rock lurking. Did each a couple of times. Got pretty busy. Snowing pretty good on the upper mtn late morning onwards. Gondi singles line slow as heck at times but Snow Bowl chair lines were surprisingly long at a few points. Never made it over to Ursa or Sun Bowl.

Snow report update this afternoon notes the snowmaking issue would fixed tonight after lift close. These issues seem to be taking a long time to resolve. Anyone have any idea why?

Have a feeling it's bigger than just a simple pipe break on Black Bear as has been eluded to in previous posts here, and in the mountain's own snow report. Why wouldn't they be making snow in other areas of the mountain?

They blew up a bunch of pipe, takes time to fix all of that. Combine that with most of your core experienced snowmaking staff going to other mountains and you have what you have today at Stratton

There was a post about Stratton snow-making in one of the Northeast skiing Facebook groups a few days ago. One guy (former employee maybe?) absolutely ripped the current snow-making manager apart and blamed him for all the current issues they're having.

Snowmaking repairs “underway” overnight not “fixed“ as promised

the Sun Bowl trails have very little base and we feel it is best to close those trails for this coming week. The good news is that Black Bear is now open, knowing it can hold up to the lower weekday skier and rider traffic. Additionally, final snowmaking repairs have gone underway as of last night. Stay tuned for updates!

Stratton’s kind of a mess right now. Did the afternoon shift sat/sun and saw some places with active work. Today there were backhoe’s in a bunch of places on the main mountain.

Whatever’s going on seems pretty widespread, no lower middlebrook/church hill/lower kidderbrook on a weekend when the sunbowl’s open couldn’t be their intended plan.
