It really is a catch 22. The best snow in all of America, but you will suffer mightily for it when it's at its best.

Yeah, it was a complete shit show. Understandably a lot of the issues stemmed from a very unstable snow pack. Patrol was basically seeing everything slide. What would have been a lot better was the communication. The 9:15am opening was delayed due to lightning....while Solitude was loading guests. 10:30am opening became 11:05am and when they said "all other lifts delayed" it meant that folks only had two routes down Sunnyside for the first hour or so. I was on the first chair but it got me basically first tracks down Crooked Mile and Patsy Marley. I still appreciated it, but yeah, it was a rough day. Lines were more like a holiday. I wisely left at 2pm to avoid the shit show down the Canyon. One guy was holding all of us up as he was slipping and sliding down the road. He went off the road and into a ditch; I called 911 for him. It was clear that he did not have snowtires. It is going to be a long evening up there......

The thing was that today was not the best snow that Utah is known for. It is dense and perfect for base building, but mostly an east coast kind of powder day--no real face shots to be had. I got half of one on the Lower Race Course at Alta. I'll take it!

Folks told me that it rained in Park City overnight.

Looks like this storm cycle is winding down with about 25-30" of new high density snow in the Cottonwoods. The next round will be colder and may leave another 1-2 feet of snow in the Cottonwoods. Looks like a Wednesday-Thursday event.

Avi danger is high. Be careful out there.

It rained at residential level and the bases, but was all snow I'd guess 7,500'ish & up. I noticed on the webcams around midnight it turned to snow at the bases.

Daybreak's reporting 20 inches, Summit House 15.5, Jupiter Peak 15.

The only answer is buses..lots of buses..
Its a 1 lane road..cant widen it..
A bus holds 40 people..that's 15 to 20 cars not on the road...
I cant think of anything else...
Fuck this gondola nonsense...would take years to implement...and the line to get on it would be insane...
Buses every 10 minutes...

And every time someone slides sideways, all those "lots of buses" will be stacked motionless back-to-back-to-back. Not to mention the times "lots of buses" are most needed are precisely the same times when the statistical odds of someone sliding sideways greatly increases.

If money grew on trees, the gondy would absolutely be the best answer, or similarly a TRAX lane up there, but again that's a money on trees sort of a thing. Too bad they cant have any Olympic events in BCC/LCC, because then dat "Free" gubment money could roll in. I think there's at least a 50:50 chance Park City gets either a Richardson Flat or Quinn's Junction gondy via that boondoggle of a path soon. It's already currently being discussed, with the DV peeps especially stirring that pot.

Somehow Winter Park is getting Mary Jane open Friday just in time for its 50th anniversary. Sure it will feature lots of what I heard one person describe as “broccoli “ (brush poking out of the snow) Still hoping things will change by March. Been agonizing to watch what is happening out there this season
