The crowds today at PC were insane...
Only the RPG was running due to wind.
The lines...went back to my house in draper!
And yet I got called off..
Which is fine as they were at least an hour long..so by the time you got up there and ready..the lesson is 1/3 rd over...
Went to Alta..cold windy poor vis due to fog.
But empty...

Woke up to snow ending down here in Lakewood. Headed up I-70, Crested the hill at Genese Park and saw the Continental Divide "blanketed" by dark cloud. Drive was treacherous up from Empire over Berthoud Pass with snow and wind driven snow, No where did i see this predicted. Winter Park was very busy so I continued on to Granby Ranch. Its "Texas Week" in Colorado and Denver schools maybe off too so Granby was a good choice today. Conditions pretty good with little pockets of about 4" sprinkled about. Nice 3 hour ski. No melting up in Grand County yet, The divide was creating its own weather and it was still snowing up on Berthoud on the way back down. Once to Empire though the clouds broke, sun came out and the temps rose as I approached Denver.IMG_5938.jpegIMG_5939.jpeg

That all sounds horrible; I think you love skiing more than anyone on this board!

Yeah i dont know how he does so many days on such a shitty season but more power to the Slug. I might not even hit 30 days this season after four in a row of 100+…

Yup; I'll end up skiing less this season than I did in the east.

Last season was kind of crummy in Utah, but this season will likely achieve the AT worst in the history of the ski industry. I was spoiled by my first season here, I swear there was almost 1 or more powder days per week or so, even if it was just a little 5" refresher. I pretty much skied deep trees all over.

Very interesting article. We don't play the STR game with our unit so its hard to comment on what the current trends are. What I have seen so far this March is that despite the "lack of snow" the current "spring break" seems to be doing ok. The parking lot yesterday was full of cars from Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Iowa. what the locals call "flat landers". I do really want to give the management of Ski Granby Ranch kudos for the job they have done despite the hand they have been dealt. Not all terrain got open this year but a lot of good things have taken place and work on further improvements is visible (think lots of woods clearing for more tree skiing in the future)

The upside of the article was the apparent uptick in summer visitation to the area. If we could score a good summer seasonal rental it would be a big help. I will say however, the current drought is visible. Not sure if they are not releasing water out of Grand Lake and Shadow Mountain Lake (they looked normal) but downstream Lake Granby is way down with Marinas currently on dry land. Our travels through Glenwood Canyon further down the Colorado emphasized the lack of water as well.
