Barbados is pretty sweet... I'm thinking about hitting it again at some point.. Great surf - nice sized island... Killer rum...

The New England coast is beautiful that time of year with the foliage but personally my 10th will be Paris. We did it years ago and always talk about going back.

It sits far out on the chain.. Close the the equator.. Atlantic side is intense! Caribbean side is sublime...

Hurricane season starts in August, ends usually by end of Nov. If you go (KW included) make sure you have the proper travel insurance.

Good thing is Barbados is usually exempt from hurricanes... Like every 20 years of something as I recall..

What does your wife like?

Why does that matter? ;)

Acadia National Park is deserted in October, but most businesses are still open. If you don't want to travel too far of course. Take the ferry to Nova Scotia for a few days.

My wife and I went to the Cote D'Azur. Stayed outside of Nice and did day trips. Great vacation. Hotel was on the Med in Beaulieu Sur Mer. The French are nice in the South. We went in May.

I didn't mean to discredit his list or anyone's suggestions. Since he didn't say "we are planning," I thought maybe this is a surprise trip, but perhaps I'm wrong. Just trying to get a feel for the kinds of things she likes to do is all, since he did ask for suggestions...

French Riviera...it's beautiful that time of year.
Sounds good to me! :)

Since you mentioned the NH/Maine coast/sights, it reminded me that there actually is a New England cruise. I don't remember which cruiseline it is that does it, but that's an option.

I like wa-loaf's suggestion of Acadia. Haven't been there, but that's on our "someday" list, too.

Aside from the long drive it's easy to do and you can get all kinds of accommodations from camping to super luxury.
