Area Skied: Killington
Conditions: AM firm, dust on crust(4"new?") softening during the day
Trip Report: So I guess I must suffer from "snow-in-the-backyard" syndrome... After waking up to about 4" of snow on FRI., ran into a friend who was just as stoked to see the snow. We had been meaning to get out together anyway and the time just seemed right. He was just about done w/ work and I was just headed to:???: But with something in the works I headed to work with a :grin: Then realized I'd left my cell at home:blink: Somehow managed an early day and was home b4 dark...& no missed calls.
After some deliberations we decided to go for it. Packed a few things and grabbed a sleeping bag. At around 10pm we hit the road to a parking lot on the Killington access road. Road conditions being what they were we made it into our destination at around 4am and settled in for a nap. Woke up when they plowed the lot and grabbed some egg sandwiches. Managed to get on one of the first "chairs" @ the K-1 (8am?)
Broke through the cloud layer at the top and was greeted with some positive vibrations and some sugar like snow. First few runs were firm and fast until a combo of sun and skier traffic softened things up
Was ripping up some fun untracked lines on the trails when skied just below the lift we had agreed to hit up next:dunce: Thinking I had gotten on the lift my friend boarded...when I saw this from below we shouted some plans to meet up back at the K-1 which had a slight wait at this point the 2 of us decided to utilize the singles line whenever on this particular lift for rest of day. Most lift lines were bearable considering the weekend...some lifts did seem to stop 2-3 times on way up :smash: I wish I was a little more familiar w/ the area as to avoid these pitfalls. Once again we skied w/out a map and loose plan of where to head next. The trails did have icy spots where snow had been scraped away but also some nice little piles of snow to blast through/turn on top of :-D We had chose K based on the amount of open woods and where not let down(second part of my wish) Skied hard all day no stopping for lunch and hit up all 5? peaks. One of our last runs was an area a group of boarders from PA said was called trail 7? some unmarked woods...Glad we went for it what started out fairly tight and narrow opened up w/ many choice lines for all. Worked our way back over towards where we had parked and called it a day.
With all said and done I'd have to say it was a successful 24hr mission nice to be home and in bed last night
Ok so if you've read this far maybe you where in Killinton last night... Did Snoop Dogg really blow up the Pickle Barrel? There was good line out front as we drove by?:
