I'm gonna say #1 is Chill Wills, the original voice for Francis the Talking Mule (movies in the '50's, pre-Mr Ed)

On #2, I think you're right, and I'd guess the "A's" are the Oakland Athletics (or wherever they were in '74), but I don't know where to look that up off the top of my head, and I'm too lazy to look
