We're stoked to announce that the 2nd annual Ski The East Freeride Tour is on the books and ready to kick off in a couple of weeks at Mad River Glen!!

THE MISSION of the Ski The East Freeride Tour (STEFT) is to synchronize the Eastern freeride community by providing a unique platform for collaboration, competition, recognition, and progression of competitive East Coast freeride skiing.

Previously, four competitions were operating independently of one another at Mad River Glen, Magic Mountain, Sugarbush, and Jay Peak Resort. These have become well respected over the years and are the only existing freeride events on the East Coast. By integrating each event into the collaborative STEFT, we've created the opportunity for additional camraderie, prize offerings, and media exposure for the contestants, events, and mountain resorts that host them.

STEFT has added additional awards to each event including a cash purse for the male and female alpine
ski winners, along with ramping up the event apres parties that celebrate each competition and the tour collectively. Everything from group "shot skis" at the bar to frozen t-shirt contests to live music.

The STEFT will receive full event coverage on SkiTheEast.net with news articles, photos, video edits, and a feature-length compilation movie slated for web and television broadcast. The STEFT will facilitate event awareness on a larger scale through garnering mainstream print, television, and internet medias.

Through executing a rigorous four-stop tour, the STEFT has been officially sanctioned by the International Free Skiers Association (IFSA), the governing body of the Subaru Freeskiing World Tour. As a result of this, the STEFT has adopted and integrated the IFSA judging criteria and points system. By incorporating the IFSA,
THE SKI THE EAST FREERIDE TOUR MALE AND FEMALE OVERALL POINTS WINNER WILL BE AWARDED PREQUALIFICATION IN THE 2011/2012 SUBARU FREESKIING WORLD TOUR.

Last year's STEFT overall winners Ashley Maxfield and Dominick Malaussena have already been out competing on the FWT this year, with Ashley taking 4th place in both Chile and Argentina, and Dominick finishing 11th overall at Revelstoke BC.

The dates for this year's tour are as follows, we hope to see a large AZ contingent representing at every stop!

Mad River Glen: 2/5/11

Magic Mountain: 2/26/11

Sugarbush: 3/5/11

Jay Peak: 3/12-13/11

Be sure to check us out at skitheeast.net/freeridetour and on the STEFT Facebook Page

We need to let everyone know than in an unprecedented event, the Mad River Glen Unconventional Terrain competition scheduled for tomorrow has completely sold out during pre-registration. With over 100 people pre-registering there simply won't be enough time tomorrow to allow any more in. We understand that people who were planning on signing up on-site tomorrow morning may be disappointed, but there has been so much interest in this year's event that it has reached it's capacity earlier than ever before.

For anyone who did manage to pre-register and will be competing, starting time has been moved from 11 to 10 am to allow more time for everyone to get their runs in. Get out there and shred it up!!!
