EAST BURKE, Vermont -- Burke Mountain's 2nd Annual music festival was again successful this year, with $2,500 being raised for the Kingdom Kids Association and 1,335 festival goers enjoying a lively day of music in sunny, mid-summer like conditions.
The festival featured Tempe, Arizona's the Gin Blossoms, a Grammy nominated band who served up all of their big hits including "Hey Jealousy", "Allison Road", "Found Out About You", "Til I Hear It From You", and "Follow You Down". Lead singer, Robin Wilson, was especially playful and interactive with the crowd. The show also featured Epic Recording and platinum selling artist, Howie Day of Bangor, Maine. Playing solo, Howie Day entertained the crowd with some of his new, yet to be released songs as well as his smash singles, "Perfect Time of Day", "Collide" and "She Says". Perhaps the surprise of the show was opener Marc Broussard, of New Iberia, Louisiana. Broussard kicked in with what he calls his "Bayou Soul" style of play and had the crowd on its feet. He finished off his set by bringing the house down with his emerging hit, "Home", and sent the crowd clambering to scoop up copies of his latest CD "Keep Coming Back".
Kingdom Kids executive director, Jody Flanagan, commented on how again the weather worked out for the festival and continued, "what a great event the [Burke Mountain Music Festival] is for the community and especially for the children who benefit from Kingdom Kids' efforts." While there was rain all day Friday and into Saturday morning, the skies cleared mid-morning and by the time the show started around 1:15pm, the sun was out and temperatures reached nearly 80 degrees.
