3/4 Wachusett @ Night

Date(s) Skied: Evening of March 4th

Resort or Ski Area: Wachusett

Conditions: Loose Sugar, ranging from soft to hard

Trip Report:

Left Boston in the rain, drove to Wachusett in the rain. Was very tempted to simply turn around. However, the closer I got to Wachusett the dryer the roads were. Was very pleased to be 5 miles out and noticing flurries of snow!

Conditions were mixed. Was really like riding down a mountain of cane sugar at times. Soft in places, some grabby snow, and some frozen chunks on top. As the evening went on it firmed up a bit and was much more consistent to ride on.

Smith had some pretty big ugly bumps on it, but was closed at 8:30 for grooming. That was annoying as it was fairly fun despite the uglyness of the run.

Spent the rest of my time alternating between 10th and Conifer. Overall, I'd say Conifer was the more fun run for me that night. On the right hand side there are a few miniature kickers that have formed which were fun to pop off of.

It was also quiet there last night and I got a ton of runs in. Overall a pretty good night considering. They still have a decent base, although the water is running again down the waterfall.

I thought Smith was great last night, but I usually stick to skiers right because all the snow get pushed over there. Only take the head wall if I want to check if my edges are sharp.

There's a big race tomorrow. They probably closed early to start putting up the course. Going to be closed most of the weekend as the Great and Good races are Sat and Sunday too.
