Their in my neck of the woods right now doing a project. A real hardluck story for the family. I'll be real interested to see things play out and the episode air in a few weeks as the guy who's the lead builder/designer for the project did the architectural work for me and my wife when we added on to our house 3 years ago, and he did some really cool design work IMHO.

I read that title as ABC Extreme Hangover, for some reason, and figured reality shows had finally gone much too far.

That sounds more like a Tru-TV reality show ;) ABC still just barely has a little more programming class than that...........just barely though  ;)

I do respect the charity, but sometimes, probably predictably, the producers take license with what they depict.

For instance, my girlfriend's uncle is a landscaper that did some help on one of their shows they did near Boston... Ty, the douche host, apparently showed up for the first day and the last day, and one day in the middle to be seen while the project was in process.

Then, apparently, the reaction of the family wasn't dramatic enough when they first showed them the house, so they made the family do another take. Ridiculous, eh?

That's going to be great for the family. Also heard on the radio that they got lists of what the kids had in their rooms and also their xmas lists and the station is going to supply the stuff to them for next week.

I read somewhere that 70% of the families on Extreme Makeover Home Edition have to sell the home within a year because they can't pay the taxes on the 'income' of the new home...

No idea whether there's any truth to that or not, but if so, kinda sucks.

Knowing the EXACT location/area of where the house is and the current state of the housing market, the taxes on whatever they build there in the next few days shouldn't be a problem given the size of the state assistance check the mother gets. Voluntown, CT is quite far from the "CT Goldcoast"(Greenwich, Westport, etc) both in terms of geography and housing value.

IIRC it wasn't the property tax that was the problem... it was the Income tax generated by having several hundred thousand dollars of stuff being given to them.

Jeffe, give Ty a good, hard kick to the testicles for me, will ya? Thanks.

I read the same thing you did, Dub. And the property taxes do eff these people up pretty good, whether they're in Greenwich, or Griswold, they go up. A lot, relatively speaking.

Now that's a show I would watch!

drjeff, you going over to help out and get on TV?

At least try to get an AZ banner in the background?

Given my lack of home improvement skills, I figure the best thing I can do is spend 60% of the total build time up in Vermont skiing ;)

My friend Tim went. Interesting story.

It really is, and especially this time of year in this economy it really seems to be doing a great job at bringing a community, if not region together.

One of my assistant's brothers was actually on site yesterday doing masonary work, and some of the stories he told her about what this house will be like inside and out seem really cool(LOTS of stonework!!!!!)

Hopefully the anticipated weather lull tommorrow will coincide with the familes arrival!
