I'm a PC guy but have a MAC powerbook that i use for misc stuff. the battery died last year so i just use it like a desktop from a single location.

I hadn't used it in weeks but went to make a movie the other day and found it wouldn't turn on. The light on the power connector shows green but pressing the power button doesn't result in anything happening.

Anybody aware of "secrets" on a MAC, like a special key combo, for powering up a seemingly dead powerbook?

You might be holding the edges too tight or in the wrong location ;) ;)

Sometimes my mag connector looks like it is working, but it's not quite connected right and won't charge the battery. Try re-seating it.

unplugged and replugged many times, both at the MAC and power strip, with no luck. even flipped the connection over with no luck.

It's not making any noise at all? The motherboard croaked on my iBook recently (it was 6 years old) but it was noisy for a while before that.

some laptops require that a battery be installed to pass the power on to the PC. The battery might be so far gone that it won't even do that anymore.

If you get a new battery make sure you get from the manufacturer. I have had non-oem batteries blow up and ruin my entire computer (and carpet). Not worth the $60 in savings.

i've had the battery completely removed for 6+ months and it used to power up fine without it. i fear the thing is just dead..

not the end of the world but i did enjoy having a MAC to play with, especially for making home movies.

well, the old fashion take it apart and put it back together DIDN'T do the trick. guess a decision on a trip to the computer doc or dump needs to be made.

You can make an appt with a genius at your apple store on-line so you don't have to wait around when you get there.

Do you have a voltmeter that you can check the output of the power cord with?
