do you talk to yourself while skiing? If so, are you a motivational speaker...or a drill sargeant? Or do you have a personal soundtrack that you sing to yourself?

I don't talk to myself...but I do have some sound effects from time to time...usually either a dirt bike...brraaaap....brrraaaaaaaap...or a logging truck hauling ass down a backroad in Maine...downshifting, engine breaking, the whole bit. About half the time the noises are audible. A couple of my buddies thought I was loopy until I made them try it themselves... After two runs of it they were skiing more aggressively. I do have a habit of singing "monday monday...da da, da-da-da" (old sixties easy listening song...mama's and the papas I think?) when I get to the top of Monday Mourning at the River...something about the slow, cheery pace of the song that makes the big gs turns seem even more appropriate.

I talk..rap..sing whatever when I am skiing..sometimes I just yell hidey ho hidey ho hidey ho like the Christmas Poo from South Park..I usually ski with my mouth wide open as well..if I ski behind twintippers I get a snack that way..when I was younger..I was a much more anal and strategic skier..especilly at larger resorts as I wanted to cover alot of ground so I would talk to myself and say..OK after this run take this lift and ski this run to this lift over to those woods down that gully to the bar for 2 beers one slice of pizza with beer #1 and one slice with beer #2..drinking each beer in 9 gulps..lol..what can I say I like numbers and I keep track of my runs and so sometimes make a ding...bell sound and say..#17..

i know this is weird, but sometimes when i'm skiing alone and on a really great run I kinda make believe my dad ( long deceased who loved winter sports and got me into it ) is riding on the back of my skis . And i'm mentally connected to him saying "hold on Pop, you're gonna luv this one ! "

I really miss my dad

I sing a lot. Sometimes I dance too!

I've seen you do a little wiggle before thought you were doing the Pocono Shuffle at first..

I always have the song from Talking Heads...You may ask yourself how did I get here..especially if I'm deep in some woods..

Before a run I like to get a song going in my head. Something with a stomping beat most often. When I'm skiing down a tough section sometimes I'll time my turning with martial breathing "whaa ... whaa ... whaa..." If I screw up or miss a crucial turn I might yell at myself "dork" or "a**hole" or something milder like "come on".

It's funny that you posted this thread. I've actually been thinking of this the last few days.

I only talk to myself when I am really focused on a particular run. Then it is all encouragement and a few words about the basics.

Now that I think about it.. I do say stuff to myself for encouragement.. But only when I'm scared shtiless...

Yes, usually about what I'm trying to focus on, chastising myself for screwing up, or congratulating myself for doing well.

That's pretty darn cool. :)

I tend to be a drill sergeant in my head. When the voices get too loud and it paralyzes me I make animated sounds in my head like Three Stooges whoop whoop whoop, or Forumula One racing sounds. That usually gets me off the brain paralysis and on to some fun stuff!
