I've been playing around with a few TV apps on our iPad lately...and I'm pleasantly surprised.
The ABC and NBC apps let you watch some fairly recent shows. I haven't had time to dig and see what's archived however. But they had a fair amount of their popular shows up for viewing.
Last night, I DL'd the Xfinity app from Comcast. If you have one of the higher teired cable packages, this would be really neat. We're on a lower tier since we only watch a few of the channels on cable. But the app still delivers a good amount of free content. Last night, I was able to watch part of an episode of Top Gear from BBC America. They also had a bunch of free moves (Remember the Flintstones movie?). Not new...or top rated stuff, but if you needed something to watch to pass time, it'll do. They also had some select networks with free content. They have things arranged by network, popularity, movies, so I'll have to find some time to explore. It lets you sort things by popularity, A-Z and offers a filter so you can only see what's free. Neat.
I found another app from the Canadian Broadcast something or other. I think it's their version of PBS. It was a lot of stuff I've never heard of, but still, something to pass the time.
I'm kicking around getting Apple TV so we can stream from the iPad, to a TV. The probelem is, I beleive ATV only streams videos you have on the iPad and youtube vids. I don't think it works with apps. iOS 5 may change that. I know it will for the iPad2...but not sure if the iPad1 will be able to.
