Bachelor Party in VT/NY?

Anybody have any tips for selecting a mountain for a bachelor party within a few hours of North Jersey/NYC?

I've read good things about Killington, Mt. Snow and Stowe in doing a search for "bachelor party" on this forum. Nightlife and easy access to slopes would be high on the list of importance. Also, because there are a lot of guys, I would think budget is important as well. It'd probably be a Friday through Sunday trip for a group with varying degrees of skiing/snowboarding ability.

Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to the forums!

Killington and Mt Snow are pretty good for nightlife as far as that is concerned. Not sure about Stowe? Someone else here should know.

Withought divulging too much, what are the plans here? Ski and have a great time? I couldn't even begin to speak about the seedier side of skiing bachelor parties and what is offered in VT, if that is where you are going with this

Thanks Nick. I've been enjoying reading the forums since I came across them last winter.

It's most likely going to be good skiing during the day and bars during the evening, as the groom isn't big into the nudie-bar scene. When I google "Vermont ski bachelor party," however, it looks like the options are pretty endless if things do go in that direction.

The biggest thing is finding a place with some fun nightlife as close as possible to NYC. Hunter would be a good option based on driving distance, but I can't seem to recall what the bar scene is like (and I know the weekend crowds are rough up there).

Killington is the place for that. Did mine there the winter '06/'07 and hit a nice 12" dumb.....we skied hard and partied harder! In my opinion it IS the place to be for the bachelor party. Also went to another friend's brother's BP there. That one was a little more into the party scene than the skiing scene (didn't help that it was 10 degree temps with a windchill below zero).

Oh and that BP started an annual tradition among my friends where we all get together every winter for one "guys" BP weekend at my friend's place at Jay Peak. So far we haven't had another bachelor party among the group for our annual outing, but we like to call it that any way. This year will be BP V. Can't wait!

Another vote for Killington. Stowe is too expensive and pretty far for a weekend. Mt Snow would be a 2nd choice with Lake Placid/Whiteface in 3rd. I think it is about 2 hours to Montreal from Lake Placid for a good party scene.

I prefer Stowe's party scene to Killington's. I much prefer the skiing too.

IMO, Stowe has the best ski bar in New England with the Matterhorn.

I agree that's it's too far from your location for a weekend though.

I think I have to agree with the masses. The best party scene would be at killington. We had a bachelor party in the mount snow area a while back, but the real festivities and entertainment happened once we got back to our house!

Thanks everyone. Looks like Killington is overwhelmingly the favorite. If it doesn't happen for the bachelor party, I'll definitely be making the trip this winter.

Now, as a back-up plan, is there anything a little closer - maybe New York or Massachusetts - that could do the job nicely as well?

wachusett, you can hit up Worcester after

Seriously though I'm sure there are some good NY suggestions. I'm not all that personally familiar with Apres ski out in NY

Nothing that I can think of. Most of the MT in Mass and southern NY have nothing around. Maybe Hunter has a few good bars but not a big party ski town from what I remember.

Go to Jay then ski in the Eastern township. You are then only a short distsnce from Montreal and the Canadian Ballet on St Catherine's St..

Go to Hunter, stay slopeside at the hotel or condo's. Hotel is probally better as you can have breakfast there and it is ski in/out. Has a hottub and happyhour at the hotel bar is very cheap.

They have a shuttle that will take you to Tannersville for the serious nightlife. Several bars are within 100 yards of each other. Or you can go to MacGregors acroos from the mountain in the evening. Decent food - the crowd is a bit older than what you will find in Tannersville and the music is a DG & bad Karokie. In Tannersville you will have more current music, live & DG.

Only 2 hours from Manhatten and there is bus service from the Port Authority if needed.

If K doesn;t work out, Mount Snow is about 45 minutes less of a ride. If that is sitll too far than Hunter will be your best bet.

I went to a bachelor party at Stowe once but we stayed in Burlington about 40 mins away. Burlington was a lot of fun, live music, good bars and we avoided getting kicked out of our hotel! Carpooled back and forth from the mountain. All of the people at this party were based in NJ but I think the quality of skiing is so much better in Northern VT that the extra hour or so drive is worth it over Killington. Burlington is closer that Stowe for the first days drive too.
