These lifts aren't about adding capacity as much as servicing a mid mountain learning center. Other than Pali, most people don't go back to the base area and ride that lift other than first thing in the morning.

It just seems like an unnecessary wishlist to add such a short gondola. This is very much like what Jackson Hole has I guess...

I thought Pallavacini was more of a Castle Rock type situation where the diehards wanted to try and maintain history.

It was kept as a double to help snow preservation on that terrain. As mentioned above it is also the only base area lift that provides direct access to the beavers. The other way to get there requires 2 lifts.

Seems like the gondola would have a similar usefulness as the short one at Beaver Creek. I hear the instructors love it. It lets them load all the kids into one cabin and no worries about chair loading. Right now the mountain is not set up very well for beginners/novices. Looks like this will be a big improvement in that area and also add another route to the top.

Actually A Basin's plans look very similar to what Alterra is doing over at Winter Park. In that case they are removing the Gemini lift and putting in a gondola up to the area of the Oassis Lodge, where there is a large area and lifts suitable for novice skiing. They already have a cabriolet from parking lots. The gondola is supposed to be multi staged feeding Vasquez Ridge (another area of expansion planned for there) then a connection to downtown Winter Park. I have no problems with what Alterra is doing.
