Hey,

I went to Belleayre for the first time last week and it seemed like the only place to stop for food was one diner everything else was closed. Anyone have a good place to grab a bacon egg and cheese on the way? Or lunch on the way back? I don't mind a little bit off the main road I have a 2 hour drive, but I can't spend $10 on food at the lodge.

Depends on where you are coming from. If you are getting of the thruway at kingston addictions to go, a drive in deli on the left hand side I believe just after woodstock harley davidson makes a decent bacon egg and cheese and it is a drive thru.

Hobo Deli across the street from Across from Harley Davidson about 2 miles from Thruway Circle on route 28. Best place to buy a sub sandwich for lunch. open early and closes like 11pm or 12pm.

In Shokan the Mobil Gas Station on right side of route 28 makes a great egg, bacon, cheese on hard roll.

On the way home check out Rail Road pizza about 2 miles from Belleayre on Route 28.

There is also a pizza place on Route 28 in the plaza near Phoneicia.

Boiceville Market, but get there before 11 that's when they shut off their grill. Pine View Bakery right before Boiceville is pretty good, so is Bread Alone right after that. Black Bear Hollow out near Phoenicia has some pretty banging bacon egg and cheeses. All are right on 28.

Black bear hollow on 28 is good for breakfast, sportmans alamo or brios in phoenicia is good for dinner. Might also check out the new cafe across from the onteora school(where the subway used to be) I haven't been there yet though

What day was everything closed? Could it have been Christmas related?

Here is what my family does: Bring EVERYTHING to eat from home. If we have to stop on the way home, it is at Black Bear Inn (huge TV, fast, and reasonable prices) or a pizza place - don't know the name of the place - on Route 28, just past the circle at the Thruway intersection, right side. Once in a while we stop at Winchell's Pizza where I highly recommend the soup, salad & bread deal. I almost always pick up a coffee and gas if necessary at Stewart's.

These are a 5 minute backtrack west from the mountain in Fleischmanns, but worth the trip: LaCabana Mexican place is GREAT (burned down last year, but reopened this year) and so is Griffin's Corners Cafe.

Since you are not wanting to buy lunch at the mountain for $10, I won't even mention Peekamoose....

It was Dec 19th which was a wednesday. A lot of restaurents are closed tuesday and wednesday apparently. I'm better off than most college students because I have an internship that pays $15 an hour but I balk at paying much for food. I'm used to $7 chinese food or $5 pizzas in town at school, not $9 for a soda and soup at the mountain.
