Woo-hoo! The best little hill in Southern New England kicks off the new season tomorrow up in Charlemont, MA.

I'm stoked, I'll get my first day on Sunday. There won't be that much terrain open yet (Big Chief for sure, and probably the base area beginner stuff and a couple of cross overs...Maybe (slight chance) Exhibition and Outback-but those are longshots). Oh well, I'm just ready to start skiing the little bump I call home.

Any of you southern new englanders (MA, CT, RI) or down state NYers and Northern Jersey Folk who haven't been here before ought to get up for at least one day during the season (on the way to VT or whatever works) you'll be pleasantly surprised at how much skiing a little MA mountain can offer (and the ease of logistics, price, no-crowds, family friendliness, etc will be pleasing as well).

Well, hope to see plenty of the Alpine-zoners at the BEAST this season.

Nice.
I was there in January. It was my 1st visit since a high school bus trip there circa 1994 or so. Had a good time, it's terrain is def legit. Will def go back this season, hoping for a pow day there.

nice.. Berkshire East is on my must-ski list this season. I'm looking for a mid-week storm and an impromptu vacation day to make the trip there..:snow::spread:

I'll be back, was there yesterday "training." Just Big Chief and the beginner slopes. Nice skiing, even developed some small bumps on the right of Big Chief by afternoon!

I'll be in a group of instructors, don't have my instructor's coat back yet, wearing black and green Phenix, Blizzard Magnesium SL's and old beatup grey Leki poles. Give me a shout out!

First day out was fun! Shook off some dust, tried not to ski terribly (I still need a few days of turning to get up to speed, rust never sleeps, I guess). Good to see some happy familiar faces at the beast. See ya again next weekend (I'll have my little guys with me next weekend, however!).

it is still early but the forecast for Sunday looks like it *could* drop a foot of snow on BEast. at this point in the season would this make Monday a great day to ski there or is it just base building event?

word on the street is to visit BEast after a dump, just wondering IF this happens is it the right time to go?

I'm not even sure that'll they'll be open for weekday skiing next week. I would view these storms as base building. Really need another 1-2 feet of natural to start skiing the non-snow making trails. I would head further north at this point in the season if you want fresh tracks and more terrain.

Now ask me again in February when all the man-made trails are covered and we've had some snow fall and I'll most certainly tell you to check out the BEast after a dump!

Between friday and sunday's storms, BEast should have quite a bit of snow come monday. They are talking about up to a foot from each one. You'd think they would open for xmas week.

They very well could, but they're a little slow to update their website and I'm not sure that the office staff is even there this week since they're not open. I'll know more later this week what the plans are and I'll post something up. But even with that snow it could be hit or miss, so if you want a sure thing, I'd go to VT.
