details and logistics are still being worked out, but it looks like there will be some sort of a pro division or maybe 2 pro divisions competing for cash.
and the normal amateur division going for the trophy.
the amateurs can decide to move up and go for the cash but the "pros" cant move down
a pro is any current or former USSA competitor.
should be fun to watch some of the older pros vs the young KMS rippers.
will also be nice for all of us hacks who never competed in skiing to not have to go against some dude fresh off the noram or wc.

so, because I competed in a couple of USSA competitions in high school 20 years ago I'm some how considered a 'pro'???

Not that I really have intentions of competing in the BMMC

thats why the details are still being worked out and there are prob. going to be 2 pro divisions. so a guy like you doesnt compete against mike moorse (for example) and regular hacks (like me) dont go against former mogul competetors
i think the idea is to open the contest up for more people while keeping an even playing field

I guess what I'm saying is 20 years ago, anyone could compete in junior USSA events. You didn't have to be very good

I wouldn't think it to be 'fair' for a hack like me to have to go up against pros just because I did couple of races when I was 15.

like i said, they are still working out the details. maybe the former ussa B level skiers will compete with the amateurs and the former A level skiers will compete in the one of the pro divisions.
either way its still better than how it was with only 1 division. the old rules would allow someone fresh off the olympics to compete against wknd warriors
the numbers are down for the BMMC, many of the recreational skiers dont want to go against a bunch of 22 year old "retired" skiers.
and many former greats would like to ski in the event but dont because they dont want to beat a bunch of amateurs.
more divisions will attract more skiers, and thats a good thing
but it is killington, so no matter what they do, someone will bitch about it...

that makes sense

been a long long time since I've been able to make it even as a spectator. Hopefully I can swing it this year.

its gonna be a great event and the cash should attract some big names. whether you ski or not you should check it out.
