Hey All,
I'm back from a fun morning session at Blue mountain the true mountain. I arrived at the lower lot at 740AM and it was 10 degrees and windy. Not to many people were booting up in the parking lot. I was scanned in and on the first civilian 6-pack chair of 2009. First run I skied Challenge which was a little icy at the top from the wind but nice carvable cord the bottom 2/3. They blew a thin dusting of snow on Razors edge but the crusty snow underneath created some snowsnakes. I then went back to Challenge and skied 4-5 empty runs down that. I then took a run down Sidewinder and there was still alot of fresh cord. I rode the lift with PASRs own JBS and he was enjoying the snow.
Later on I saw Kevin and his buddy..they are two goobers that hangout at the local bar. I skied a run down Paradise with them and it was a steezy speed run..no redcoats and due to the wind I had no choice but to stay in a low tuck. After Paradise I skied Razors again and it was a little bit scraped off. For New Years morning there was a decent amount of people..enough that most chairs on the 6-pack had people but no real liftline. The quad was also running and I took a ride up the quad to check out the snowmaking progress on Dreamweaver. It looks like the trail will be ready tomorrow or Saturday as there is a decent base on it. They were also blowing snow on Switchback, the halfpipe, skiercross and to the skiers right of the quad.
Near the end of my session, I lapped Main Street three times..Challenge had alot of people but hardly anybody was skiing Main Street. There was alot of blowover from Switchback and nice chalky manmade poe..the bumps were really scratchy so I left them alone. I ended up leaving at 10:10AM after 15 runs. I didn't leave due to crowds or due to poor snow conditions but because my toes were frozen. I could have warmed them up but I felt satisfied and I have three more uncrowded morning sessions (Friday-Sunday) to look forward to before returning to work. I expect the conditions tomorrow morning to be even better with continued snowmaking. Two years ago on New Years day..only Main Street was open and it was rainy and foggy..what a difference in having an actual cold winter.
Hopefully I'll see alot of PASRs and AZers at Blue tomorrow morning...
