Date(s) Skied: Tuesday 3/8/11

Resort or Ski Area: Burke, VT

Conditions: PP, PDR, Crud, Bluebird, upper 20s

Trip Report:

Got up there around 1:30 and headed for a first run down Jungle. A select few spots are starting to get down to the ice, but 98% of it is still mint with a few powder shots here and there. Packed snow on lower Willoughby was so soft you couldn't even hear your skis.

Next up I did some woods off the power line by Dixiland. Pretty tracked out everywhere you went, but nice steep glades over there without having to deal with Sasquatch. Dixiland was obviously even more tracked out, but still very very good base conditions. Runout of East Bowl is tracked out better than yesterday so a bit less of a PITA.

Hit up Fox's next which was still in good shape. Hit some ice thats covering the rocks and also got too close to a tower and clipped one of the footers. Otherwise, good run with lots of deep snow still on it.

Headed over to Birches next which was in just as good of shape as Jungle, if not better due to it having more width of maintained trees. Checked out Doug's and Warren's woods as well, also still in great shape. Get up there while it lasts folks, you don't see 30" at Burke that often.

We were out there today also, bluebird day with great snow. Birches still had some deep stashes (still has). What a great couple of days these have been.

Was there today as well. Took the first shift: 9:00 - 2:00 so I apologize for Dixiland being so tracked out when you got there for the second shift

I haven't hit Burke many times, I don't know it that well, and I didn't pay much attention to the map today. So it makes it hard to write I detailed TR. But we had a freak'n blast. We went wall to wall far-east to far-west and everything in between. There was nobody there. Most chairs were empty the rest had only singles or doubles on board. Everyone had a huge smile and was super friendly. That frigg'n traverse on the bottom of east-side trees is rough for us on one-plank. But we had skiers offering boosts and good cheer seemed to abound everywhere.

Probably the biggest thing we noticed was the amount of untracked in obvious places (which we made good use of). At Cannon we are used to seeing every possible trail edge, tree slot, rock drop, and rabbit hole utilized as quickly as possible. At Burke there were huge swaths of untouched in sight of the lift that lasted well into the afternoon. Amazing! We were so worked over by 2:00 that we couldn't mange to keep it going even though there was plenty left.

I shot a bunch of GoPro footage and will hopefully get to it soon. But since it seemed like every other skier had a GoPro on board today maybe you'll see someone else's first.

Mmmmm Burke....I'm in love.
