Headed up to Camp Muir on Mt Rainier today... a few days too late for the best conditions but I still got to ski some stellar wind buff powder from 10Kft to 8Kft... pics:

Awesome! I was up in that area twice when I was younger. Not sure how far up went though, it was in the summer. I remember parking at Paradise in June...and there was still a ton of snow.

I was there just hiking around with my visiting sis on Wed... they had at least 1.5' of powder starting at Paradise (5600'). We got some rain Thurs/Fri/Sat with the snow level going up to 9000' and lost ALL that powder. I was a little bummed that I missed out on that but yesterday was very good since the snowline dropped to 5K Sat night and we got a 2-5" refreshing up high... basically hiking on trails from 5600' to 7500', skin the rest of the way to Muir @10000', and then ski down some 2K of awesome snow! It was a lot of work, but worth it :)

That's an amazing part of the country. I'd love to take my wife out there some day; she's never been.

Thanks for sharing! Great pics. Brings back some nice memories. I always wondered how awesome that place must be in winter.

I did the summit climb from Muir camp at the end of summer (a good few years ago) and even then the snow fields between Muir and Paradise were quite plentyful. Living out there really gives you the opportunity to ski all year long, if you willing to earn your turns.

Yep, there's a PNW based website called Turns All Year (TAY) www.turns-all-year.com, where there are plenty of folks who try to ski as many consecutive months as possible... some with 30+
I earn turns, but some of the skiing around August and September gets a little desperate :D The Muir snowfields can get pretty dirty and very suncupped during those months.
