Resort or Ski Area: Cannon, NH
Conditions: Everything... 20s, Snow showers
Trip Report:
Rolled in around 9 and headed for the top. Started off with Skylight followed by Hardscrabble, both of which were groomed (yes, Hardscrabble) and already getting skiied off after just an hour. However, I couldn't wait any longer and headed over to Mittersill. Took two laps over there. Tons of fun, I love the concept of not having trail names or a map, just head downhill and look for different nooks and crannies.
Headed back for Peabody but had a little fun in Huckerbrook for a couple runs. Finally some jumps that were my kind of size... not tiny little mounds, not enormous X-Games style jumps, but nice medium jumps for some fun air. After that, I headed back up Peabody and down By-Pass to Avalanche, both of which were groomed again. Hit Lakeview glade after that which was decent... a bit skiied off thanks to its visibility from the chair, but also helped out by the rouge manmade snow that blew in the woods.
Next, finally got to add another legendary New England trail to my resume with a run down Tramline. The little glade section at the top is fun. No air required today, there were various little shoots through the cliffs to ski over as long as you didn't mind going over a rock or two. No real damage to my skis though. After the cliff section, the last half had GREAT snow.
After a couple slices of pizza up top, I hit Upper Cannon to Lost Boys glade. It's a BEAUTIFUL run right now... great snow and the pines covered in fluff was quite a blast to ski through. Don't think I've ever skiied such a picturesque run.
Headed down back to Mittersill from there, discovering another small park with more medium jumps in Tuckerbrook along the way. After 3 more runs of Mittersill exploring, I headed back to the summit to check out the other two glades, which were quite similar to Lost Boys. Finished up the day with runs down Rocket, Lakeview Glade, Echo Glade, and Paulies.
All in all another awesome day at Cannon. I think I'm almost liking the fact that I missed the Jay pass deadline because Cannon has been great. I'll be at Burke tomorrow (bringing the GF to the dog sled races and I'll sneak out for a few runs), then maybe a powder day funally on Thursday. This is panning out to be the best season since 04-05, and everyone is getting the goods this year.
