Ski Area: Cannon

Conditions: Variable Spring

Trip Report:
The 13" of last Friday are all but gone and the cover on the open trails is thinning. The only option off the Peabody is The Links to Middle Ravine. You then have a choice or Lower Ravine or Lower Gremlin. It was pretty warm out from the start and topped out in the low 40's. The snow was quite loose and quickly got pushed around and formed large, oddly spaced moguls in the normal nasty spots. Lower Cannon was closed but was being used by FSC for training to minimize the traffic on the limited terrain. Early in the morning there were times when there was just too many people on the trail and people were eating it all over the place, especially in some of the sketchier spots. A lot of people left in the late morning and after lunch there was not many people left at all. Mogul skiing ins't my thing and I wasn't planning on doing much of it today but it worked out and got to work on some technique. The cold is coming and I heard that snowmaking will restart on Upper Cannon and Tramway tomorrow. They really need some cold weather to get more terrain open.

nice report. cool that cannon restricted FSC to a closed trail with suspect conditions, i saw that on the conditions report. i have skied cannon when only the links to ravine was open with FSC running training on middle ravine, that sucked! cheers to cannon for this good decision. it probably would have been a mess if they opened lower cannon and had the FSC training there or any where else on open trails. errr, more of a mess, perhaps? wonder when the last time was that the tram didn't operate until after the new year? usually they have it going by xmas week.
