Trip Report:
Forecast for today looked dreary, but it was only sprinkling around 11 so I decided to go for it. Great decision, clouds started breaking up a bit, making for some great spring snow. Place was dead, all cars contained in the parking lot by the lodge. Day #44 of the season for me, a new personal record.
Started off with a few runs down the front 5, hitting Avalanche, Zoomer, Rocket, and Garys. All were recently groomed other than Zoomer which hasn't been groomed for a couple days, so no bumps on those trails. However, Paulies was different as it was ungroomed and had some great lines on the middle pitch. I love when theres a real good front 5 trail, 7-8 minute laps with the short lift.
Spent most of the afternoon up top. Snow cover was great up there, so great that all 3 glades were open with NO bare spots except for one in GW. Lost Boys was the best of the 3, just a blast. Profile right under the lift inside the ropes was awesome... 3-4" of corn so you couldn't even feel the base. Great views today, the ~5,000' cloud level helped block out sun glare, but made for 100s of miles of views, could see Willoughby Gap, Burke, Jay, Stowe, Sugarbush, Camels, and Killington from the top. However, couldn't see Lafayette summit until at least 3. Kinda funny being able to see 100s of miles in one direction, but not being able to see the mountain across the street.
Overall a great afternoon, had a blast at Cannon this season. Probably gonna end up doing the Jay pass next year, so we'll see if I get back to Cannon next year. Down to 1 or 2 days now... Killington on May 1st for sure, and maybe Sugarloaf on May 15th. Also will keep an eye on Jay as I'll hit it May 8th if they're still open.
