Any one else notice Cannon's trail statistics growing this year? No, they did not cut or add any additional trails. But, I noticed some trails have been "added" to the map including "Missing Link" and "Short Fuse." Missing Link is apparently the section of trail between the Cannonball Quad and Spookie so they shortened Middle Ravine. Short Fuse is "Upper Lower Hardscrabble" if you follow me, the section above the cut in from the Links. You can now take one "run" at Cannon via as many as eight different trails, wow! Let's hear it for padding the trail counts!

That new Mt Manager is a real marketing genius. Padding the trail count and putting up a sub par website. That's genius! :puke:

He might not be directly involved with the marketing and the trail map, but I would not be surprised. You can add not having the Peabody Quad running during opening weekend. Ravine from the Peabody Quad is actually a really nice opening run in past years, but only having the Eaglecliff Chair open on opening weekend is lame. Most people skiing at Cannon in November are no looking for Green Circles.

Also new on the map for this year are David's Detour, which goes from the bottom of Tramway to the Links, and Chute which is the old liftline between Lower Ravine and the Peabody Quad. Missing link has had a sign on the mountain for a while now, but it has never been on the map on included in the stats.

and not having a open/total count on the site. a list of trails with open next to them is not enough. msot people do not go to a mountain based on specific trails.

disagree....I would much rather go to a mountain with 1 or 2 good advanced runs open than a whole lot of greens.

Interesting about the sign being up for Missing Link. I think David's Detour and Chute were added either last year or the year before, those are not new this year. The added Mickey's Margin two or three years ago too, which is somewhat understandable. Same with Chute and David's Detour which are enough of separate trails that they are somewhat understandable. Technically, "Upper Lower Hard" was listed as a separate trail on the conditions map last year but an official Cannon rep pipped in to mention that it was not officially a separate trail. Guess that changed. Unlike David's, Mickey's and Chute, there was no separation on these "trails" which were essentially just split off from actual trails to pad the count, IMO. Cannon in the past has made good use of Upper, Middle, and Lower where the divisions were appropriate. This is no different than Superstar Headwall at Killington. Really is no need.

Boy rivercOil,you seem to hit home on a lot of my Cannon discussions. This weekend I sat at the bar talking with bartenders Donna and Scott about how we have 5 new trails this year and did not even cut one tree!David's detour was one that was added without cutting a few years ago. What really makes me laugh is last year they started showing 2 lower Cannon's and 2 Gremlins on the trail report and they count as 4 trails.Go look now at the report on the website. They don't even have different names just different ability ratings.
