BTW, you should tell you goofy friend there carrying his board sideways makes it tough to hike through tight trees... ;)

Never having earned my turns, I'm no expert... but I did wonder why he would do so as well.

That's the way some packs are designed, like the Dakine Heli Pro.. I could never figure out why one would want to carry it that way though..

That's my old pack. The bottom buckles for the snowboard carry always annoyed me so I just ripped them out one day figuring that I would never need it. I still have the buckles but they were in Lowell and I was in Lynn. So that is reason for the awkward sideways carry.

Of course. Also you berate him for not bringing a pair of poles for snow shoeing even though he doesn't own any. Skinning without poles is the new snow blading. So extreme...
