SOUTH EGREMONT, Massachusetts — The Catamount Ski Area, which straddles the Massachusetts/New York state line in the Berkshires, has something special in store for skiers and snowboarders during the upcoming holiday week: the most open terrain in its history.
Based on current weather forecasts, the resort expects to have at least 23 of its 32 trails open by Monday, December 26.
"We're having a great stretch of round-the-clock snowmaking," said Richard Edwards, who oversees marketing for the resort. "We'll go into the holiday week with more open terrain than we've ever offered at this time of year."
The resort also expects to make snow during the holiday period, adding still more open terrain. Snowmaking is already underway on the double-diamond Catapult run, which is the steepest trail in the Berkshires and one of the steepest trails in the Northeast.
"We expect Catapult to open some time during the holiday week," said Edwards. "Assuming the weather cooperates, it will be the earliest-ever opening for that trail."
All lifts are scheduled to operate during the vacation period, including the resort's new triple chairlift in The Meadows Learning Area.
