This question for Catskills regulars: How crowded are Belleayre, Hunter or Windham trails on Saturday / Sunday after Thanksgiving? Where to go for intermediate skiing?

Best to call the mountain the day before.

Belleayre will probably have lift 7 midstation trails for intermediate skiers. Bad news here is short intermediate runs but the good news is the trails will not be that crowded. Hunter and Windham may also only have short runs for intermediates. Hunter usually only has Helgate black diamond off the top which means Hunter intermediates may be limited to B-lift. Windham usually doesn't open this early so it will be interesting to see what they do. Windham looks like they want to kick it up a notch this year by opening earlier than usual.

Update from GSS post below: I stand corrected

Hunter will have Belt Parkway open from the top tomorrow. Wow this is not a typical year.

This is not a typical Thanksgiving..Hunter, Windham and Belleayre will have lots of terrain open for this Thanksgiving..alot of misinformation in your post. You say Hunter will only have short intermediate runs but Belt Parkway is opening tomorrow..

I would think Belleayre would have the least coverage as a guess. If you tend to stick to blue trails, go with Windham. They will have have top to bottom, and it'll likely be a less crowded than Belt @ Hunter. If you are an intermediate that also enjoys black diamonds, then go to Hunter.

on a related note, how is the weather and liklihood there will be skiing in central NY next week?

i am going to near syracuse for Thanksgiving and am wondering if any of the ski resorts are close to being open.

I am thinking of going to Greek Peak.

I'm very tempted to go to Windham, I do not remember them opening that early, must be new management.
