Just announced today in the Kingston Daily Freeman. Cheaper electric power from Canada coming to Albany to New York City. I am sure there will be some left over unused KWs to reduce the price of snowmaking.

The U.S. Department of Energy has issued a presidential permit for the Champlain Hudson Power Express project, a 336-mile power line that will carry lower-cost Canadian hydroelectric power to New York City along a route that includes the Hudson River.

The permit was announced by Transmission Developers Inc., which last year received state Public Service Commission approval for the 1,000-megawatt project, which has been in the planning process since 2008. Such a permit is needed for the construction and operation of electric transmission lines at the United States’ international borders.

Well if it is anything like the northern pass project through NH it will be tied up in red tape until we are all dead and buried.

It is probably the power that the Northern Pass was to carry. It will be interesting to see if NP gets pulled from the approval process now that this has been approved. Buy LED light bulbs and use less power!

And what about the ski resorts? May be they could use more LED's for lifts and snowmaking.

That's just great. We (the U.S.A.) can produce more than enough cheap energy for ourselves. We even export it. Yet government regulations & enviromental zealots prevent us from using our own resources. Lets buy it from Canada.

Brilliant !!!

If we all used less power in our homes, the electrical rd would not e strained and the wholesale prices would not skyrocket. Same goes fr people who se natural gas. Since close to 50% of the power plant in E burn nature gas, and the gas supply is strained in the winter due to heating demand, the price of the gas goes up pushing up the prce of electricity Since no one wants a pipeline o transmiiontowers in their bakads the problem doesn't get solved. How about building srorage tanks for natural gas similar to the ones you see in northern NJ along the turike

And we get a 30% hike in New England.

Hey you snooze you loose. Indian Point will be shutting down in a few years. NYC will need something to replace it. May as well be cheap hydro power from Canada. To bad New York State is forced to share its cheap Niagra Falls hydro power with other states.

That was one of 3 power lines from Canada I have seen proposed, including Northern Pass. My understanding was the 2 other than NP were underground lines. One was suppose to be submerged under lake Champlain as well!

This goes along well with the "lets close our cheap baseload electric generating facilities, give huge tax breaks to my rich donors/friends to install solar/wind (so they get free electricity ) and allow my girl friend's Canadian company to control the peons rates" King Shumlin's philosophy.

Plenty of Hyro Power up there to go around. The Northern Pass isn't going anywhere.

This project will bring a line down under lake Champlain and eventually to NYC - it has all permits so there is no more delay. An identical project is now proposed to bring a cable down on the VT side of the Lake that would feed southern New England - this project is not as controversial as northern pass because the line is buried the entire length of the route (under the lake and then in State Highway right of way). It may even be approved in VT...
