I believe in the following isms:

Capitalism
Conceptualism
Humanitarianism
Liberalism
Optimism
Probabiliorism
Realism
Romanticism
Self-determinism
Skepticism
Ubiquitarianism
Volunteerism

Forgetting the fact that that was a paraphrased movie quote, blind belief in many "isms" is dangerous.

Do you, for example, support unchecked capitalism? How about naive optimism? And what happens if your belief in optimism clashes with your belief in realism?

So do you really wholeheartedly believe in your list of isms? Or just support them on a case by case basis (thereby robbing them of their ism-ness)?

I don’t think it’s like that, either/or, black or white. It seems by your statement that you’re inferring that no one can identify what they believe.

I’m down with my isms, what can I tell ya?

South Side of Chicago BOOM!
That's great, it starts with an earthquake, birds and snakes, an aeroplane -
Lenny Bruce is not afraid. Eye of a hurricane, listen to yourself churn -
world serves its own needs, regardless of your own needs. Feed it up a knock,
speed, grunt no, strength no. Ladder structure clatter with fear of height,
down height. Wire in a fire, represent the seven games in a government for
hire and a combat site. Left her, wasn't coming in a hurry with the furies
breathing down your neck. Team by team reporters baffled, trump, tethered
crop. Look at that low plane! Fine then. Uh oh, overflow, population,
common group, but it'll do. Save yourself, serve yourself. World serves its
own needs, listen to your heart bleed. Tell me with the rapture and the
reverent in the right - right. You vitriolic, patriotic, slam, fight, bright
light, feeling pretty psyched.

It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.

Six o'clock - TV hour. Don't get caught in foreign tower. Slash and burn,
return, listen to yourself churn. Lock him in uniform and book burning,
blood letting. Every motive escalate. Automotive incinerate. Light a candle,
light a motive. Step down, step down. Watch a heel crush, crush. Uh oh,
this means no fear - cavalier. Renegade and steer clear! A tournament,
a tournament, a tournament of lies. Offer me solutions, offer me alternatives
and I decline.

It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.

The other night I tripped a nice continental drift divide. Mount St. Edelite.
Leonard Bernstein. Leonid Breshnev, Lenny Bruce and Lester Bangs.
Birthday party, cheesecake, jelly bean, boom! You symbiotic, patriotic,
slam, but neck, right? Right.

It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine...fine...

(It's time I had some time alone)

Others might call it shilling. I'm calling it Cheerleading. The ardent and zealous support of a home mountain to the point that it seems like the mountain has no faults or can do no wrongs. I don't consider myself immune to this aspect of posting about my favorite resorts. But I think I am more neutral than many. I frequently discuss the short falls of places like Jay can Cannon..Even though I think the world of them, I know they aren't for all skiers. But I am hard pressed not to defend places like MRG, Burke, and Saddleback which all have a big spot in my heart. But even those mountains have many aspects that make them not the best resorts for all skiers.

So I am opening this thread up for discussing the meta of cheerleading favorite resorts. Often times taking debates into illogical places or attacking other posters instead of attacking their points and claims and often times making false or illogical rebuttals.

What causes this fan boy fanaticism? Many of us are guilty of this at least some of the time.

For myself, I have a chip on my shoulder that I can relate to HPD who often defends Whiteface with Cannon in that a mountain becomes known for icy conditions but people often over look its lesser known aspects (to their own loss). I also cheerlead for powder skiing and earning turns which I know are not for most people... but I know there are folks out there like I used to be that are missing out... and they need to hear about it just like I needed to hear about it at one point.

What do you cheerlead and why?

Highpeaksdrifter, DMC, and JimG are the biggest and longest homers on this board. HPD's paranoia about anything sugarbush is simply a projection of blame.

I love Sugarbush, IMO it’s one of the best, if not the best ski area in the Northeast. You won’t be able to find a post where I’ve said it is anything less then a great Eastern ski area.

For a majority of folks who travel to destination resorts the skiing is not the #1 reason they go to a particular resort. For the last 5 years or so the so called ski marketing experts and the magazine reader survey's say shopping is #1 and dining is #2. Lots of people like Stowe cause of Stowe Village, to Jackson Hole to snowmobile in Yellowstone or check out 10,000 elk up close and personal, to Aspen for the shopping, Okemo for the many choices of slopeside lodging, etc.

Most smaller hills do not offer that. Gotta look at it thru their eyes, not yours. When the sking(terrain) got knocked off the #1 spot about 15 years ago I too was baffled but now after talking to literally thousands of resort guests over the years it's pretty understandable.

Besides, no one wants to spend their hard earned vacation time at a nearby or regional resort. Plus, lets's not forget the cred some people feel they get just saying they went to Utah or CO at the next dinner party.

What have you done with the real HPD?
