Cornell is going to have a tough time with Virginia. Keeping the VA scoring in check is going to be the key to the game. Duke/Syracuse on the other hand is going to be a battle. I will be up at for the Final Four weekend. Hopefully I will make into the games on Saturday. The usual tradition with the boys is get trashed at the tailgate all day. Sunday on the other hand will a must see which translates to heavy drinking early in the morning.

Is there pro lacrosse in the US???

The NLL has been around since the 80s I believe. The NLL is box lacrosse like they play in Canada. Think of lacrosse on a field the size of a hockey rink. Really fast game, hard hitting, and a lot skill in terms of handling a stick.

The MLL start up in I believe 1996. MLL is field lacrosse. Field lacrosse is played on a field with similar dimensions to a football field. This form of lacrosse is by far the most widely played in the US. The MLL got up to 10 teams but cut 4 this off season due to many reasons.

Many people see the MLL as a showcase league. The best of the best from the college game are found up and down each teams roster. As far as excitement and size of fan base, I would take college lacrosse any day.

If anyone caught the college lax game of the week on MSG my Yorktown Cornhuskers ranked 8 in the nation took on John Jay. This is one of the bigger rivalries in Westchester.

Interesting..one of the regulars at the local bar is a Lacrosse coach for the high school I went to and I thought to ask him but never did. They didn't even have a lacrosse team when I was in high school...I guess the sport spread from Maryland..

Back in the 80's I always thought of Lax as mainly a prep school sport. It seems to be everywhere now. Even my old HS in Maine has a lax team now.

Lax was always pretty much prep schools and then big around Baltimore in public schools back when I played.

Speaking of NY schools, how did Alfred do this year? My best friend in HS and to this day got a full ride there for Lax. Set a record at the time for Northern New England Division for points in the season. During his Senior season, he scored 144 points in 17 games. Pretty much 4 goals and 5 assists a game

Camp has it. Lax was huge with Native Americans all over the NE. The Onondaga Tribe near Syracuse pumps out many talented players. For a long time preps schools had it. Equipment can get expensive. Now that more HS are taking it up and offering gear to the kids it is spreading quickly. Besides upstate NY, Westchester, Long Island and Baltimore have been traditional hot beds.

Alfred is competitive ever year. They haven't really surfaced in the D3 Top 20 in the last few years. They play in the Empire 8 with Ithaca, Nazareth and the like.

Congrats to my Orange and The Red Dragons of Cortland-----Cornell did themselves proud by out playing the Orange for the entire game except for the final 4 seconds.

That Cornell loss was heart breaking. Coach should have called a time out and told his guy to throw it high and far in the opposite corner. Let the attack fight for the ground ball. Even if Cuse comes up with the ground ball they wouldn't have enough time to clear it and score. Cornell had some great game plans to hold teams like Cuse and Virginia to a reasonable goal total.

Great weekend at Foxboro. Partied in the parking lot most of Saturday. We ended up in a corporate suite for the championship game. Best Final 4 weekend ever.

looked like a pretty exciting game back in the day....

per wikipedia: "In the traditional Native American version, each team consisted of about 100 to 1,000 men on a field that stretched from about 500 yards to a couple of miles long. These lacrosse games lasted from sunup to sundown for two to three days straight."

Yup, I was VERY surprised he didn't use his time out. If he did that would've been the game.
