Resort or Ski Area: Crotched Mtn, NH
Conditions: PP, frozen granular, Spring.
Warning Novice Skier
Took my office to the hill on Wednesday. Place was empty, but there was some activity on the beginner side at the bottom as it looked like a couple schools were there on field trips and some home-school groups who have pooled for good rates on passes were over there.
Three lifts open, magic carpet, the 2-man and the quad to the summit. Groomed trails were a little crunchy at first, but started to soften as temps rose, especially those protected from the wind. Since there was nobody around I took the opportunity to try a new trail, Meteor, which heretofore I'd been too chicken to try. The snow pack still seems pretty much in tact. A little soft at the bottom around the lifts towards later afternoon. Bumps to side of Pluto are flattening out a bit at the bottom, but seem in great shape for the upper half. Actually the best trail I skiied was Big Dipper, not sure if it was the way it is situated to the wind or little skiing pressure that day. Well, at least one other person did ski it, as there was a pretty nasty looking patch of blood splatter about half way down. Never encouraging for a novice to see red snow.
The lifts lines are always non-existent, but on Wednesday it was ridiculous. I don't think there were ever more than 6-8 chairs occupied on the Summit Quad. Took the lift up one time with the gentleman who runs the condo association. He said this summer they are taking the lift to the summit and they'll be continuing work in the woods to the east.
I couldn't get away 100% as we're right in the middle of a product launch and I needed to be available for a couple calls and some emails. Free WI-FI and a pretty fast connection. I was able to ski a number of runs, come in do a little, work, hit a few more, return etc. It was great.
Heading back up this morning with the laptop. Better than nuthin'!
