Date(s) Skied: December 13, 2010

Resort or Ski Area: Alta, Utah

Conditions: Sunny skies and temps in the 30's. 72 inch base, PP/MG conditions.

2010-2011 Report #: Day 9

Trip Report: A buddy and I went back to Alta for more turns. While I waited for my friend to arrive, I got the second chair on Collins and began hitting some of the the terrain I had not yet sampled.

Big crowd on a Monday morning:

I hit Mambo to Schuss Gully for a warm up. The grooming was great. I then did the same thing but hit Collin's Face. It was nice, but nothing compared to what we would be skiing.

My friend met me and we headed to Sugarloaf for some more terrain options. I had hoped to ski East Greely if I could because the visibility was good. We ducked onto Amen and hit some nice pow:

Those are my tracks on looker's left:

Notice the guy on his knees? Turns out he works for Peak Photo of Alta and things were slow so he gave us a free 40 minute shoot. We had one condition: he had to show us the goods. So after this shoot:

We then headed to the top of Sugarloaf for some nice scenic shots:

And then followed him to Eddie's High Nowhere for the next shoot:

We then moved on to the next venue which was East Greely Area:

After this, we thanked him and headed to Supreme:

The avalanche control in Devil's Castle and East Castle had been constant all morning--we could see and hear the charges going off. But when we skied down Upper Big Dipper we found that the ropes and been dropped and we were a tthe right place at the right time:

The traverse was a bit of a slog and was tense at one point:

But it was so worth it!

We had to ski the other side (we skied Castle Apron and were off to Devil's Castle from Sugarloaf).

Follow us....

To more incredible turns:

Took a wrong turn and found some more deep powder:

I entered on skier's left via a chute and into that main apron:

We took a lunch break and then went back up for some more.

Cecret Saddle had some great pow:

As did Cabin Hill:

We threw in some trees for good measure....man the Utah pow was deep!

Watch out for those western skiers...this guy was packing heat!

162798_476121834666_744459666_5761901_2016993_n.jpg

We played around in the trees for at least an hour...hitting Cecret Saddle, Razor Back, Cabin Hill, Cecret Cutoff, and some other great terrain.

I skied down to Collins and hit Spruces to Race Course:

164026_476122729666_744459666_5761929_6457305_n.jpg

And to the bottom.

Lord knows that there was enough snow!

We pretty much skied open to close. If these photos don't make you want to visit Alta then I don't know what will....

Nice pics!
Alta is on our hit list. We head out Jan 29-Feb 5 to Powder Mountain which will be our mainstay for the most part since we are staying on mountain. Friday the 4th we plan on visiting another mountain (Solitude/or Alta?) before getting dropped off for a nights stay in SLC then fly out Sat.

I was planning on going to Powder Mountain, but Alta had more snow and was closer to SLC. A good choice! There are so many great places to ski that you really can't go wrong!

If I end up over in Utah lets meet up. I'll bring the medicine:daffy:

Good skiing with you and your wife Sat.

Also would totally devote a day to Powmow-I love that place
